Comparison Test: 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX vs. 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 - Although the Subaru's 5.9-second 0-60 time is two ticks better than the Mazda's 6.1-second clocking, it's all due to its traction advantage at launch. By the end of the quarter-mile, the two cars are dead even at 14.5 seconds and the Mazdaspeed 3 is going 98.7 mph compared to the WRX at 94.4 mph. Considering the difference in power ratings, none of this is surprising. (more)

The company will not provide a company car for me. I think they get a better deduction by paying my mileage? Well either way I'm worn out from doing it. My license takes a risk every time I'm out on the highways. Thankfully nothing has broken lately or I might have missed my vacation. My boss can't even reach me My Rex is pretty rough right now, last legs really. I have a suc... I mean a buyer for it! |

Replying to: deskman (Dec 23, 2007 8:03 am) So, you're talking about the Mazda 2.3 DISI (inline 4) that is on Wards 10 Best Engines list for 2006-2007. Didn't think that was a rotary...

Replying to: deskman (Dec 23, 2007 8:03 am) subie= quality I really do not know what to say to that. Subi's are great cars, but, Mazda's are not Fords. Since this thread talks about the Mazdaspeed3 in particular, Ford does not build, nor did it design the Mazdaspeed3. It is built in Japan, with Japanese engineering. Ignorant comments like that help no one.

Replying to: 5port (Dec 24, 2007 5:43 am) Nothing to do with the 80's Fords. The MZR engine design was done by Mazda and first seen in the 2003 Mazda6. This engine design is used in the Mazda3, Mazda6, Tribute, Mazdaspeed6+3, CX-7. Ford uses the MZR design in their Focus / Fusion / Milan, Ranger, and Escape. Ford abandoned the ZTech design for the more powerful, fuel efficient design of the MZR by Mazda. Mazda has taken this design even further by adding direct injection (fuel delivery system marked at 1800psi), turbo charger (built by Hitachi-Warner.) and inter cooled. The block has forged connection rods, cam shafts, and is built of aluminum. This is hardly the engine Ford used in the turbo charged Mustang of the 80's. In fact, they are not even related. |

They are currently built on the same platform, by the same manufacturer! Mazda3 / S40 / Focus really don't have much in common, at all.
