Comparison Test: 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX vs. 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 - Although the Subaru's 5.9-second 0-60 time is two ticks better than the Mazda's 6.1-second clocking, it's all due to its traction advantage at launch. By the end of the quarter-mile, the two cars are dead even at 14.5 seconds and the Mazdaspeed 3 is going 98.7 mph compared to the WRX at 94.4 mph. Considering the difference in power ratings, none of this is surprising. (more)

Really I had it pegged at at least a 14.

Doesn't mean a thing to me. If and when Mazda offers AWD on the MS3, then maybe I'll look at one. Until then Mazda can win all the awards and/or tests it wants, but it won't move the needle on my "gotta-have-it" meter one bit.

I guess you don't care for the Mazdaspeed6 at all? It's AWD as well.

It has a Haldex AWD, not my favorite AWD system, but certainly better than FWD.

If you wanna play you gotta pay as my bud always says. Great AWD systems cost money and the lack of a few luxury items wouldn't stop me from buying a car but a crappy AWD system or an unreliable brand most certainly would. Subaru is very high up on the quality list. They sure do cost when they break. I know mine has broken a lot lately.

Mazda does not Haldex. Is it similar? Yes. It is a reactive AWD system, however, Mazda builds it.

In many comparo's, the Mazdaspeed6 beat out the competition that uses full time AWD systems, such as the Legacy GT. See "Mazdaspeed6 vs Legacy GT Spec B" comparo by Edmunds.

I don't like the reactive aspect. Mazda may build it, but they probably have an agreement with Haldex to do so.

My wives Impreza has taken numerous trips to the dealer this year..head gaskets, O2 sensor twice, hold in intake manifold, replaced fuel lines (interior would reek of fuel). Right now, the ODO reads just over 70K. Luckily, we have an extended warranty, have not paid for anything.
