Article comments for First Drive: 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan - Despite swirling rumors of the minivan segment collapsing under the threat of crossover utilities, one in every 15 new vehicles sold in the U.S. is a minivan and about 40 percent of these vans are sold by Chrysler and Dodge. Americans have consistently purchased about 1 million minivans each year since 1993. (more)

Don't you know Hemi's are designed for Rear Wheel Drive vehicles only. The minivan is front drive. I also dislike the Odyssey's instrument panel. The gauges are nice, and that's about it. The base LX are more comfortable with simple dials for the temperature system than the weird automatic controls in the higher models. Quality may be good, but they need to improve design. A design like the CR-V Would be just good IMO, if not too plain. I still think the new Chrysler minivan is not up to where it should be. Interior quality, engine and overall refinement still trail the leaders. I do love the MyGig music system, though, and some other minor features over the Japanese minivans. Let's see how sales will be. Any idea when it will arrive at the dealers?

| Of all these Odyssey and Toyota owners sniping at the people who happen to like The Chrysler/Dodge versions better than the ones they picked. It is the owners money and they should pick the van that appeals to them the most. For the records The new 08 minivan is 50 to 390 lbs lighter than a Honda(depending on model)has a longer wheelbase 122.2 vs 118 and has the same or better features that the Odyssey and a longer warranty to boot. To those who snipe at the stow and go seating, I am 6'4' and weigh 250 lbs, if you adjust the headrest and the angle of the stow and go even you too can be comfortable in the second row. | |
