What is this discussion about? Honda Civic, Sedan

Article comments for First Drive: 2008 Honda Civic Mugen Si Sedan - We will not make Honda's case for it, since a base Si sedan with much of the essential goodness of this Mugen is almost $8,000 less expensive than the Mugen. That's an extra $160 per month, every month for five years, assuming a car loan with a 7.5 percent interest rate. (more)

oh and another thing...too ricey? by eldaino

while everyone now knows my take on the mugen si, i do feel the need to defend it with regards to being 'ricey'.

while having a 'riced out' vehicle can be due to go-fast looking parts without any real function, thats just part of the story; the way it blends in with the car has alot to do with that. no part on this car looks out of place (i.e. a huge aluminum rear wing, lack of neon lights on the bottom, or endless stickers all over the place) and the spoiler on the back is functional.

just to clear it up. i know some folks will think anything jdm is as ricer as it gets, no matter how sharp and clean looking the car is. oh well. your loss.

anywho, i was still expecting more.

Confirmed Suspicions by tayl0rd

The end of the article confirmed my belief that there is a higher demand for the Si sedan than for the coupe; hence, no Mugen Si coupe. It had been speculated that more people wanted the coupe in the Si board, but from most of what I've read and seen with my own eyes, the sedan is vastly more popular than the coupe (not to mention better/more sporty looking, IMO.)

i personally think the slightly more extreme porportions of the coupe (steeper windshield angle than even the nsx) make it 'sportier' looking, but i do like the sedan better.

i'm starting to see a lot more si sedans as well, a lot more than the coupes.

unless you absolutely LOVE the coupe, from a performance/versatility standpoint, the sedan just makes so much more sense.

the fact that the jdm type r is the biggest performer with regards to the current gen civics probably has something to do with honda going with a sedan as well, as the type r is one.

It kinda sucks, because techincally, for the car to be called a 'mugen' it can do with the simple addition of cooler wheels and body moldings.

But i would have liked the FULL mugen treatment.

Anyone heard of the mugen type r/r? this civic, totally naturally aspirated, pushes about 250hp, has an amaing suspension, great exterior AND an interior to match.

30k would be justifiable for a car that out-everything's a s2k, but with room for the kids and serious power.

THAT is what honda should be charging 30k for.

Honda missed the mark... again by igtufit

I have to agree with the general consensus; a $30K Si with no engine mods? We all know Honda has the ability to tune, hence the R line, and also now has a great turbo engine in it's stable from the RDX. Soooo... this is an $8K body kit with a dropped suspension and some badges?
I drove a '90 Si for a decade plus, and I loved it, but every generation after that has been a huge disappointment, or just too quirky to take seriously (a dash-mounted stickshift?) If Honda needs an idea of what a the Civic is supposed to be, perhaps they should click over to Mazda's website and study the MazdaSpeed3.

wow, you summed it up for me.

I actually liked the way the ep3 si hatch looked (02-05) but it needed the current si engine in it. (like the euro type r at that time)

honda always short hands us.

i just realized something.

mugen makes us pay SO much for their crap, and all us jdm fanboys eat it up willingly. Its great stuff, and we have seen what they can do, but why would they give us this half assed effort?

mugen, you could do so much better. I hope that these civics end up on the lots, so that someone can buy them at a more decent price (i.e closer to a reg si) and so that they realize that they can't pull this crap anymore.

this car should have been 2k more than a regular si. thats it.

i would buy one for 30k if mugen REALLY tuned it. better brakes, around 230hp, unique interior, AND the mods it already has.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is a 30k civic.

Did "Mugen" inspire the design or even the motivation for american Honda to release this 30k car? they might have just borrowed the name mugen and make big bucks out of it that's what it looks like to me.

am honda didn't release the civic type r instead thought of something better, mugen si...hahaha

yeah mugen designed it and yeah those are real mugen parts on the car.

i'm ok with a just barely under 30k civic, but imo, mugen should have worked on the engine and brakes in addition to all the go fast looks to justify the price.

yup, it would probably sell like hotcakes. if we continually ask for mugen-tuned engine fresh from the factory maybe they'll offer it next time. what do you think? it could be a step by step process huh, now they've worked on the "go fast" looks then the engine follows, but many after market vendors would run out of business due to the fact that most people would seek for mugen performance parts. i feel really bad now that i bought the 2dr si, on second thought, i can always buy a "legal" turbo/sc once they become available.
