Article comments for First Drive: 2008 Honda Civic Mugen Si Sedan - We will not make Honda's case for it, since a base Si sedan with much of the essential goodness of this Mugen is almost $8,000 less expensive than the Mugen. That's an extra $160 per month, every month for five years, assuming a car loan with a 7.5 percent interest rate. (more)

You know, i'm not totally mad at the mugen si, because i do think its a sharp looking car...it just reminds me of what somone who is really into honda's would do to their si after they bought it. But thats up to that person with regards to what he does to the car and how expensive the parts are for it. It does not mean that it would totally work for the general public, as even HONDA fans are kinda rolling their eyes at the price of the car. You know what? i would even be ok with the mugen si if it was TOTALLY mugen...including the interior and guages and the like. Then i can see it selling for what it does. But the interior looks bone stock except for some badges and the shifter. Had it been totally done by mugen, it would have been much cooler and exclusive. I had a buddy of mine tell me that it will still sell and still hold its value well. I agreed, but when you look at other limited run cars like the old dc5 type r, (the only one we ever got in the states), it had a lot more than just a wing and some exclusive wheels and interior appointments; it was almost a totally different car. Why has honda lost sight of that? Again, if i ever found one that just couldn't sell because of the price and had been sitting on the lots for awhile and the dealer was willing to give it to me for about 25k, i'd take it. but thats really all its worth over the regular si. |

"i feel really bad now that i bought the 2dr si, on second thought, i can always buy a "legal" turbo/sc once they become available." why? because you bought the sportier version? Sorry, a 4 door sports car is an oxymoron. Sure Porsche makes a 4 door: an SUV! Lambo even has (or had some) 4 door units: TRUCKS. They (Mugen) are obviously playing to the market with the 4 door version, as the 4 door is simply more popular. It doesn't mean it makes a better platform, that it is sportier, or anything. It just means more are likely to buy it. And since it really isn't a performance enhancement anyway, why not put it on the car (4dr) that sells most? Welcome to the world of marketing.

it's why you can safely call an Si (even a 4dr Si) a "sporty" car.

The civic si 4 door is just a natural successor to the integra gs-r sedan. they are very familiar with the 4 door sport compact. |

Being a Honda FANatic, I love the fact that Honda is finally getting on the bandwagon and offering factory backed vehicles like the Mugen Si and S2K CR. However, they are going about it all wrong. 30K for a Civic w/no engine mods and who is Club Racer?!? C'Mon Honda! Here's what I suggest: 1. Get rid of all the aftermarket garbage in the parts department and exclusively offer Mugen products for ALL vehicle lines. Sorry King Motorsports. 2. Give us a Type R Civic! And I don't mean a watered down version like the Integra Type R that was offered a few years back. I'm talking about the red carperts, Recaro seats, Brembo brakes, etc. It would be cheaper than a 30K Mugen Si. 3. If you're going to offer a Mugen vehicle directly from Honda, then it should have been a Mugen S2000. We all know Mugen and would rather have that than the CR. In addition, it's easier to accept a higher price tag for a Mugen S2K than a Mugen Si. That about does it Honda. It's not rocket science... Amos

And that was my first mistake since I owned an 06 SI coupe. When I initially made the decision I assumed a few thing, like at very least a slightly newer car would have the same features recent models but with a few newer improvements. That was my second mistake. Then you can complain about the price yes but again I assumed there was a reason for the stiff price tag, mistake number 3, Thats when it got much worse. I try to use my HFP wheels and tires form 06 to 08.(since wheels that come on mugen stock are summer tires and suck in water) Cant do because of TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) implemented in 07 not backward compatible $4,800 (cost of HFP equip) down the drain plus I will still have to buy all season tires. Next I had XM ready radio came standard yes I had to install XM receiver
