FYI: i have crafted a wire rack to fit onto the cargo bars of my XLS - a few hours of cutting, bending and fitting... but the result is an excellent rack that stays put and allows easy use of bungee cords to fasten loads on it

if someone can tell me how to post the photos i'll put them up here

Use a photo hosting service like photobucket.com (free) or you can upload the pictures in your carspace page and embed it in your post using the html code (starts with <img).

This link about a loose speaker on the deck of a rear shelf emphasizes why it's important to tie loose loads down. ("man was left paralyzed after the car he was driving was rear-ended and a non-mounted speaker in his car flew forward and hit him, breaking his neck.")

couldn't agree more - i travel for a living (note clothes rail across rear seats) and the number of possible projectiles in the vehicle is always a concern. the rails have a light load rating anyway, but it's a great space to put hats, blankets, pillows etc. hopefully the rack would even help to keep the heavy stuff below it from beating me to death in a rollover...
best partition is a metal grid, but i do have some fishing net i used for my Subaru that's too small for the Outie
with a hoop across the headliner & grabhandles and the headrests as an anchor, it was effective and cheap

I put them on my XLSAWD and they are just as noisy as on my Escort and Astro van. I may have to look for something not ROUND but flatter.

This is my post #531 from March, New Mitsubishi Outlander Owners Give us your report tread:

"Yakima Low Rider + 48 inch Cross Bars + 38 inch Fairing.
I will post some pictures over the weekend, when we will be done with the snow. The fairing is a must, a lot of wind noise above 40mph without it, plus it looks good"
