Personally I would be concerned about the functionality of ABS and VSC with the TCH when the primary braking is via the regenerative method vs pure frictional braking on the standard Camry.

The Escape and Mariner hybrids disable regenerative braking altogether the very instant impending wheel lockup is detected but I don't know how the TCH reacts in this case. I suspect the delay in the Escape and Mariner hybrids having stability control is the result of the complexity in solving this very problem.

Toyota has this problem solved. I have a 2008 Highlander Hybrid. All of the electronic controls (ABS, VSC, regen. braking) are fully integrated and work fine. In using mine in snow and ice this past winter they worked great.

I just picked up a 2009 TCH without navi. Surprising how quiet the operation of the electric/ICE combo was. Enough torque and acceleration on demand for my daily traffic requirements. Looking forward to the anticipated 35-40 real-word MPG!

Those considering a Hybrid vs. the similar gas model should pick up Oct. 2008 Consumer Reports. A good article and chart on the initial cost for both types, and the project fuel and maintenance cost and the projected 5 year savings or loss.

I am in Austin and considering to buy TCH 09. This'll be my first hybrid ever. Is it more expensive or difficult to get affordable maintnenance for hybrid cars versus regular Camry?

As a TCH owner since June 2006, my opinion would be that either car would be pretty much equal.

I have had zero issues with my TCH after about 39K miles.

I'm taking my TCH in for its 60,000 mile service. The price for that is $230. There is no "extra" maintenance for the TCH.

I own the 2007 TCH since September 2006 and have almost 35k miles on it with no issue so far... and just to be safe, I had dealer a week ago to replace the EPS assembly link which was covered under Toyota's warranty "Service Campaign 90A (Steering link Replacement)."
