I recently rented a 2007 Prius Hybrid in Florida for several days. It was not the best experience. Temps were in the mid 90s, but this vehicle's a/c was inadequate. There's a lot of sloped glass on this car, presumably for aerodynamics. Also, it is difficult to see through the rear view mirror due to a large bar that crosses the sloped rear window. (My vehicle did not have a video monitor to assist with backing up.) I averaged about 47 mpg, which is fantastic, but the vehicle could not enter a highway adequately. Around town it was fine. The rental company also could have helped with directions in starting the vehicle. I had to flag down a rental employee to help. Driving off the lot, watching my speed on the dash in kph, rather than mph, added to the frustration. It's a great station car--limited use.

I drove to Fla on a TDY trip, loved the car. Got 48 MPG driving fast! I was very surprised at the comfort on I-10 and pickup for a small engine. I had no problem cruising at 80 and at one time hitting 90 passing an 18 wheeler!. I made 4 round trips from Ga. to Fla in two weeks. One thing you don't want to do, is run out of gas on the Interstate!!!! With no warning, I was going 75 and like it hit the brakes! Lucky for me I was only a 1/2 a mile from a gas station!!! I like the car but doubt the long term value compared to buying a Corollla or Civic! I'd sure rent one again though!!! MM |
