What is this discussion about? Cadillac CTS, Sedan

First Drive: 2008 Cadillac CTS - This substantial 2.0-inch track increase improves handling, as it's easier to manage body roll and weight transfer. The new ZF Servotronic steering forward of the axle (a packaging measure largely related to the availability of all-wheel drive) improves steering precision. (more)

Full Test: 2008 Cadillac CTS V6 DI - Cadillac has stopped trying to be German, something it is not. Instead it has rediscovered itself and produced a uniquely American sport sedan without peer. That's a bold statement for sure, but name another American car like the 2008 Cadillac CTS. (more)

Long-Term Test: 2008 Cadillac CTS V6 DI - What We Bought: It all starts with the engine. With the 550-horsepower supercharged LS9 not being available for the CTS until next year, we were left with only two engine choices: a 3.6-liter V6 or a 3.6-liter V6. One has the benefit of direct fuel injection and makes 39 more horses. (more)

You can get AWD with both engines. You can get LSD with both RWD and AWD. You can get manual and auto 6-spd with both engines. You can only get AWD with the auto. 3 types of suspensions, you can get AWD with 2 of them.

I am interested in the new CTS.

Never having been in one of these car, how's the head room for a 6'4" driver? Also, what about the shoulder room side-to-side? Does the sunroof lower the head room?

Thanks for any help - JR

Headroom has been one of the big unanswered questions for me, too. I drove one the other day, and while I am very impressed with the car, the sunroof lowers the headroom too much in the rear seat for my liking; I'm 6 ft with a long torso. The front headroom, legroom, shoulder room are excellent. I usually have to position car seats all the way back; but that was too much in this car. Unfortunately, I have not been able to test the headroom in a 2008 withOUT the sunroof. Otherwise, this was a beautiful car which I plan to buy without the sunroof so I don't short-change any tall riders in the rear seat. I never know when I might have to ride in the rear seat. The car I drove was a fully loaded 3.6 DI RWD with the summer tire performance package. Sticker total was $48,000.

And here are a few things I learned that I had not known before: the battery is located in the right-rear corner of the trunk behind a side panel; each door has bottom-positioned LED puddle lights to illuminate the ground when the doors are opened; the window controls on the door are well-placed despite the criticisms I've seen on some web logs; the ventilated front seats were nice in the sweltering heat; the NAV screen in no way obstructed visibility while raised; the rear back-up lights are LEDs and distinctly different; there are side directed red LEDS in the upper section of the rear light fixture; dealers still do not have sales brochures; the 18-inch polished aluminum wheels look great in person; the engine has a very noticeable "ticking" noise from the outside of the vehicle which I could not hear inside the car with the doors closed.

It's been 12 years since I've purchased a GM sedan. This car will end that run and become my first Cadillac.

Thats for all the commentary and info - very helpful. I heard the DI engine does make alot of noise, but it's good to know you didn't hear it inside.

Best of luck with the car.

He said he bought this $47K unit for $41K becasue he has an X-plan. Hmmmmmmmmmm. Nice cars but their prices are out-of-sight. In 3 years this unit will be going through the auctions at about $21K. OUCH.............

for that price...and I can get a nicely equipped...not fully loaded STS......would bet the CTS had all options on it...I personally hate the Navigation.....and would probably be able to keep the price in the mid to high 30s which I feel is reasonable.......wondering what an X-Plan is.......

The X-Plan is a supplier discount, which is usually employee pricing + 4%.

Ask your HR representative if your company offers a discount program.

My company has a similar plan with BMW.
