question on Stereo maximum volume by martine

OK, I hope this isn't a duplicate post. I "thought" I posted this last night but I don't see it here, so here goes again:
I have a 2004 Axiom stock stereo system. I added a FM modulator so I could plug in my MP3 player. Couple of questions here. I noticed that there is an "auto" volume feature option with the buttons but I have no idea what it means. The manual is of no help. Also, when I turn up the volume the display reads a maximum of "30". I think this number is just a relative number, but "30" is as high as it goes, and no way is it loud enough. I can regularly leave this setting on the maximum of 30 with no problem.
I'm wondering if this is normal. If it is I guess I need to install an amplifier.... I was under the impression that this stereo system was a 140 watt system. It does not act like one.

Anyone have any ideas on changing the display message on the head unit ? It's the one that displays when you turn it on. It scrolls across, "Drive Further". I have seen pictures one ones that have been changed but could not find out how it was done. Anyone have any ideas ?

Just saw this post: The auto setting is suppose to work with the ambiant background noise. Say you set the volume to 20 and you open the window, the radio should automatically increase the volume to compensate for the added noise from outsidt. Of course this doesn't work, its like the sport ride button, not much difference in ride feel. There is a mic located under the dash to the right if the stearing colomn.
Hope this helps.
