Saturn Aura - aftermarket XM Direct tuner by texvette

My Aura did not come equiped with XM, although a feature I have become addicted to in my other GM autos.... so, I ordered an XM Direct Kit and installed the tuner and converter this afternoon.... took a couple of hours as I was careful about removal of dash bezels and had to find a place to stow the tuner and convertor..... works like a champ!..... kit is $200 plus tax and shipping several places... I think Best Buy and Circuit city charge about $400 turnkey....

If you want more details, send me an email...

Hi Texvette,
Have you had any problems with your XM direct tuner causing the Aura's battery to die. I bought my XE last April without XM and installed the XM direct in July. In August the car battery died twice. The dealer replaced the battery and I went on vacation for a week and let the car sit for a week. When I got back the battery was dead again. Then they replaced the computer module. Then it died again in October. They replaced the battery again. Then in December it died again. They are blaming the after-market XM direct radio. So, they took it out and replaced their radio. They still have the car for another problem which they think they fixed so I'll probably get it back on Monday without the XM radio. They tell me I can't have the XM direct tuner installed. Please let me know if you have had any problems with your battery.
Thanks!

XM Direct follow-up... by bakercars

I just bought a 2007 Aura XR w/out XM radio. How is the XM Direct working out? I noticed that the second post indicated problems with the battery draining. Is this the least expensive route to make this radio XM compatible? Is there a better option? I would like to be able to use the existing radio controls for my xm and not have accessories hanging all over the console.

Thanks for your feedback!

The XM Direct works great. My original problem with the battery was due to the XM Direct tuner needing a software update. So, just make sure the software is up to date and you won't have any problems. You have no idea what I went through until I finally called the people I bought the XM Direct from. They were like, "oh yeah, it needs a software update". I couldn't believe it. Anyway, it works great! It connects under the dash and it's pretty seamless. It works right through the built in radio. I love it!

Thank you for the reassurance! I found a package on Ebay for $229 (plus shipping). Any suggestions or is this a reasonable price?

I got mine on Ebay also for $199, but that was 2 years ago. I would say that's a good deal. I'm trying to find it online and it doesn't seem to exist anymore. Go for it.
