Car and Driver's February 2007 issue tested the 4-cylinder, automatic, SE version of the 2007 Accord Sedan. It had a top speed of 130 MPH (limited electronically because I believe that is the max speed its tires are rated for). That was the highest top speed of its competitors in the test.

Wow. The 4 can do 130?!!! I wouldn't have thought that. I might have guessed 120. That's impressive. I've often wondered about the "electronically limited" thing = is that just only on test cars or are all factory vehicles manufactured that way?

The V6 engines are supposed to be electronically limited, and the 4 cylinder engines are drag limited. So it may depend on which way the wind is blowing, as to how fast the 4 cylinder can go. The 4 cylinder may get to 130mph, but it would take much longer to get there.

Car and Driver specifically says electronically limited to 130, although I suppose this could be erroneous. It would take a long time to get there vs. a V6. Personally, I doubt anyone buying a 4-cyl Accord (myself included) cares much about top speed and moreso about around-town power and economy. If they cared about high-speed power, (which the 4-cyl has 'enough' but not plentiful above 85MPH) we'd get the V6.

Personally, I couldn't care less what the top speed of either engine is. I never plan to reach those speeds. Just stating what I've read. Don't know about the SE version of the Accord, but EX versions have V rated tires, which are rated up to 149mph. Tire limitations would not apply in those cars.

I was inquiring about top end capability simply because I was curious.
But according to Edmunds (as best I could tell), all 6 cyl models ride on the same tires, or am I missing something?

Since my 03 V6 came with V speed rated tires, I would assume the 07 also has V speed (149mph) too. I have never actually looked at an 07 SE's tires to see if they were V or H rated.

Edmunds shows V6 models all riding on P215/50R17 93V tires, which is what I have on my SE, the Michelin MXM4. So yes, they are V rated.
Michelin advertises the tire to be a combination of Luxury / Performance / & Touring.
How you can manage to get all three in the same tire seems like a tall order. But I guess it works.

What they forget to mention is the michelin's wet traction, which is not so good.
