#1 of 2 1967 Engine swap (early 289 to late 302) by sacxiv

I have recently installed a re-built 1984 302 “Police package” engine in a '67 coupe. Car originally had a 289/C4. Transmission was not rebuilt as there was no problems. Engine ran smooth on dyno but now, installed in the car, there is a vibration. I have replaced the harmonic (and everything else on the front-end) but the vibration is still there. Any ideas?

I have been told that the late model 302 are balance differently than the early model 289. Because of this, I will need to change the “flex plate’. I have no problem doing this but does anyone know a specific type, make, or manufacturer than makes the correct part?

The early 302 were balanced with a 28 OZ Harmonic balancer and the later models were balanced with a 50 OZ harmonic balancer this will cause the vibration you are having.
