What is this discussion about? BMW M3, Coupe

First Drive: 2008 BMW M3 - Simple logic: If it's good enough to beat the 911, then it will be better than everything else. Gerhard Richter, vice president of BMW M Power, says, "M3 stands for our philosophy; it best describes the M character." (more)

Full Test: 2008 BMW M3 Coupe - Bottom Line: BMW has broadened the operating envelope of this car, but it's still quite hard-core, and actually feels tauter and less relaxed than the Audi R8 supercar. (more)

A four door Porsche? by evanl3

I agree with KarenS regarding the recent test drive report of the up coming 2008 M-3. I own a 2006 M-3 and unlike other sports car I have purchased new, including a 1974 Jag roadster, a 1991 911, I have had more fun driving my M-3 than those - considering the time frames concerned. One of the favorite things I enjoy with my M-3 is the sound it makes and the gentle pulse of power I feel in the steering wheel when it kicks over in the morning. If BMW engineers have taken away the drama of the drive with a more refined engine, who cares about 400 quiet horses? I've been bugging my dealer for info on the new '08 M-3, but I don't think from the suggestions of performance of the first test drive report, that I will care very much for a car I have to wait for a long stretch of open road to enjoy the excitement I get just driving around town in my "old 2006 M-3" from stop light to stop light. == The four door comment? Was the test driver thinking of the Cayene SUV? It's a Porsche with four doors. EvanL

I rank Munich's M3s as follows:
1. E30- A thinly veiled rat racer; I swear the car feels alive on the track.
2. E46- Recaptures a bit of the E30's rowdy nature. The Competition Package is a must for track driving, and every M3 deserves to be driven on the track. Excellent all-rounder.
3. E36- Often reviled for not having a "real" ///M motor, but it's a great drive nonetheless. A couple of thousand spent on engine/suspension upgrades will have one running darn close to an E46...

Looks like BMW has finally finished castrating the "M" line.

The E46 M3 (CSL) was the last holdout (not counting the nicely done Z4 M Coupe), but it seems that BMW should have named this car the 340i and saved the M3 name for the lighter, firmer CSL (the M3 should be the ultimate, no CSL needed) they are planning.

Looks like BMW has produced yet another M3 that doesn't compel me to sell my E30 M3...

Sure enough Carbon fibre roof like the last gen M3 CSL is quite impressive. But seems to me all that V8 power can't seems to transform into good acceleration numbers? I mean, it's gonna be slower that the Audi RS4 quite a bit. But for sure it will be hard to beat in the handling side (Lexus IS-F dido) (Never quite big fan on boring Quattro's handling) As recent test show's that Lexus's numbers were actually quite similar to what BMW M3's other than the price of course. Hmm.. a comparo between 335i (Auto) with the stick shift M3 and IS-F?
