Article comments for Comparison Test: 2007 BMW 335i vs. 2008 Mercedes-Benz C350 Sport - So when you compare these cars, it's about pride, not just money. And now that there's an all-new generation of both the 3 Series and the C-Class, the battle begins again. Which would you bet on, the player from München (which translates as "monastery"), or the one from Stuttgart (which translates as "stud farm")? (more)

BMW did remedy the problem. All 335is now have oil coolers installed. At first, BMW installed them only on cars with a 6MT and sport package. While this is was a mistake, BMW figured someone with an automatic and no sport package wasn't going to push the car too hard.

Notice two similarities with the two articles that had the BMW 335i overheating? I did! In both cases Infiniti supplied BOTH cars. Did they supply a 335i with an oil cooler? Of course not! Pretty sneaky.

At the end of the day, you take all of the advantage as you can if you're trying to catch the leader! That's what Infinity is doing...I ask the question to the editors, are they aware of these tricks when setting up each test?

This thread is discussing the Mercedes C350 (not the Infiniti) vs 335i . I don't know who supplied the 335i for this test but I'm glad to hear that they now all come with oil coolers. My major criticism was of the authors who avoid even mentioning the issue of oil temperature and oil coolers. Given all the previous reports of high oil temperatures, as journalists(???) the authors definitely should have reported whether the oil temperatures remained normal and whether the car was equipped with an oil cooler.

"In contrast, the 2008 Mercedes-Benz C350 Sport rewards a driver who is less interested in absolute performance than a simple degree of driving exhilaration, and who enjoys style and infotainment technology usually reserved for more expensive models in the Mercedes portfolio"

So basically, if you can't afford an E, just get C350. Heck it drives kinda dull, what Benz is thinking (if they are). In this class you want something that exhilarating to drive leave the prestige/luxury stuff to E class.
BTW the author is also not commenting on the interior, well I saw it and it cheap looking is the best I can sum it up.
No way the C will close the sales gap anytime soon.
Not to mention, the aftermarket hop-up for 335i that push it's performance even higher.
