Replying to: ken75 (Mar 07, 2008 9:01 am) AS for a previous Oil question.... the required oil grade in printed in your owners manual and should alos be on the oil fill cap. Most newer cars require either 5W30 or 5W20. Be sure to use the correct one. Cars that require 5W20 may have problems with the vairable valve timing if the oil weight is the wrong viscosity. 0W20 will also work for 5W20. It's the second higher number that's more ciritical to VVT operations. The first number just affects viscosity at low temeratures. After a few minutes it's no longer important. The dealer DOES NOT need to change your oil to maintain your warranty. That is BS. Just document the service in your service log, and try and keep the reciepts. They would need to prove through oil analysis that the oil had not been changed or that it was incorrect. The owner would merely need to file an Affidavit stating that they changed the oil. Honestly, I trust myself to change the oil correctly. I've never screwed-up an oil change. I've seen dealers and shops do it on serveral occasions to my dad's car.

New purchase Feb. 23, 2008 Altima SL....drove 2 weeks; would not start. Dealer kept for week and replaced starter on March 14 and car was picked up on Good Friday, drove out of town Saturday, and guess what? On Easter..it would not start. Had to be towed by wrecker to Dealer on Monday. ECM was replaced on 3/26 Wednesday....now Service Manager says there is a code showing up that it has a CLUTCH problem~?!? Funny...it's an automatic, 4 cylinder!! He wants to keep it until the middle of next week?~!? Any advice from knowledgeable gentlemen and ladies....please?~!? SP |

I have 08 Altima with CVT with around 3k miles on it , I feel that car has some vibrations when driven at 70+ speed specially when RPM is low and i am not pushing gas paddle too hard ? I have test drove other altima from Dealer's lot and found it was behaving same as my car but i drove Sentra without manual mode and it did not give any vibrations. Is it normal for all Altima's with CVTor is something wrong with my car ?

2008 Altima was named recently as the #1 car on the market for tall people. Although I'm only 6'3", my legs are freakishly long However, after a month, it became obvious that even with the seat ALLLLL the way back, I still lacked proper thigh support (even though we ordered the 8-way pwr driver's seat), and was getting an aching tailbone from having my knees in the air whilst driving. So............... I took out the seat, and had 2 steel spacers made to bolt onto the seat rails, effectively elevating the front part of the seat cushion under my knees. WHAT a huge difference!!! I love this car now Not only does the seat now support my entire thigh, but I'm able to avoid sliding the seat all the way back (making more rear seat room). As a result, the shifter (6speed manual), steering wheel & 3 pedals are in PERFECT position. I'm NEVER selling this car now (now if I can just figure out a solution for the passenger seat that feels like sitting on a chair that's missing its legs.)

Replying to: karpediem (Apr 02, 2008 6:00 pm) I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels the seat cushions are angled too downward toward the footwells. If you can come up with a good solution for the non-adjustable type seats, please LET ME KNOW! On the ADJUSTABLE DRIVER'S seats, fortunately there are pivot mounts on the brackets so that if you custom-alter the bracket's front end, the rear of the seat bracket won't get screwed up. As mine is now, all the adjustments work as before, the entire seat assembly is just leaning back a bit more. (My current solution for the PASSENGER seat is to use an old-fashioned "wedge pillow" tucked under my knees when I'm riding shotgun). I'm not sure whose odd anatomy was chosen when Nissan designed the seat mounting, but my much-shorter-than-me wife also feels the seats are tipped forward (our only gripe with the Altima so far) and she makes use of a wedge pillow, too. Good luck & let me know.

Yep, the title says it all. My first Nissan ever, a brand new 2007 leftover Altima 3.5, 6spd totally loaded. Something snapped when shifting from 1st to 2nd less than 100 yards from the dealership and totally fried the clutch. So now it sits at the dealer, awaiting some parts so they can replace the entire clutch and I'm praying this isn't a sign of things to come. Anyone have clucth problems with a 6spd? |
