circlew: The point we were making in this test is that the reason the BMW's advantage in ride quality was so slim is because its run-flat tires do degrade the ride quality. However, the G37 has a stiffer suspension setup overall, so even with its better tires, it still doesn't ride as well on LA freeways. As always, your experience may differ, especially if you don't live in LA. --Erin Riches

Everyone: The price difference between the 335i and the G37 we tested in comparo was only $3,800 (that's an estimate, of course, since G pricing isn't available, yet).

True, a 328i would have been a closer match on price. However, given that the 335i is a much better match when it comes to straight-line performance, we decided it was the better fit for this comparison test -- in which we wanted to pit BMW's best six-cylinder engine versus Infiniti's best. --Erin Riches

Shouldn't a Saab have been included in this comparison? That's real value from a real sports car.

Thanks for your feedback, Erin. Now I get your drift.

I just had a 335 loaner yesterday with Conti's and the ride quality was very good with those run flats. It had 6,600 miles logged and I know it did not have the ZSP since it had the225/45 17's. I would love to try this car with GFT's, however. BMW makes probably the best suspension around today. Best I've driven for sure.

Motor Trend: The King Is Dead by txbmwfan

One good thing that may come out of the Motor Trend article. BMW adding oil coolers to all 335 coupes and sedans (both future and previously purchashed). That will also help "resurrect" the king. Then that just leaves the price difference. And if Motor Trend wants to judge based solely on that, they are just trying to create controversy to sell magazines.

Thanks for dropping by, Erin - we all appreciate your perspective. Personally, I think it's great when an editor takes the time to stop by one of these "article comments" discussions and help clarify the questions that inevitably arise.

Has it been positively confirmed that BMW NA has issued recall or service bulletins to dealers directing them to install oil coolers on previously purchased 2007 335i sedans and coupes? I have noticed my 2007 335i, purchased in December 06, runs hot and was going to speak with the dealer about it. Also, is the "fix" installation of an oil cooler, or more accurately, larger intercoolers?

Thanks for any further info on this issue!

This guy is right. You guys always compare cars to 335i's. Are you kidding me. A fair comparison is with a 328i, in which the G37 would obliterate it.

I guess fair is in the mind of the beholder....BMW 335i does not really have to compete with G37. It's always been the other way around.

If you drive them both and don't get the difference, it doesn't matter much to you. Some can feel, see and want that edge.

In other words, compare yourself.

I will know which one I would pick after driving both.

I am getting tired of this. People are crazy; BMWs are NOT worth the money. 3 series vehicles are good, but not amazing. First of all, I agree, they are great driver cars, but come on, that is not the only vital aspect of a car. My dad has had an Audi and two BMWs; his current one being a 550i. He has decided that this will be his last one and that his next vehicle will be an Audi A8. I have compared my dad’s 550i and my 335i with my mom’s G35. Honestly, for the money, the G35 is well worth the money. Maybe the G35 is not as good as a 3 series in Handling, but trust me, it sure is very close, and the difference is almost imperceptible. I have a 335i due to the fact that everyone is saying that it is better than a G35. After having driven my mom's G35 which only has 2000 miles on it, let me tell you, that baby is amazing. I paid about 45k for my BMW. I have a 07 335i sedan 6 manual with Sport, Premium and cold weather packages. My mom has a G35 sport manual LOADED. I mean with navigation and everything, and she paid 35k. I paid 9K more. I am truly disappointed. I am disappointed because the G35's shifter has a more fluid motion through the gates. The clutch is easier to modulate smoothly and the ride is amazingly more supple. Not to mention that her G35 is made in JAPAN this makes it more reliable than my car. And she gets better fuel economy in the G than I do by 3 MPG on highways and 4 MPG on City. But back to the test drive. Her car was smoother than my car and its acceleration was very close to my BMW's. Also, the G35's exhaust note is ten times better than my car's. The g35 has a better interior in terms of design and look and the exterior is gorgeous. The bangle-ized 3 does not look anywhere as nice as my mom's car. As far as driving fun goes, my 3 is better but the difference amongst the two is almost imperceptible. I would rather save 9K, and get a better looking (in and out) smoother, cheaper and more reliable G35 than a 3series. Not to mention that EVERYONE has a 3 series. The funny thing is that there are those who think that they are cool because they have a 3 series. PLEASE look around you. I see close to five 3 series vehicles every two minutes. YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING SPECIAL. What are even funnier are those people that think that they are rich or something because they have a 3. PLEASE, laugh at yourself. You have a STRIPPED-DOWN 328i which you most likely leased for around $339. WOW; you are very wealthy. A Honda accord lease is around $300. The other thing that makes me laugh is when there are those who try to race me. This occurred when I was driving my mom's G35 once. I was laughing so hard when the kid next to me, who obviously was driving his parent's LEASED 328i, was driving like a maniac. We pulled up to a stop light and the kid starts revving his engine. First of all, I have 306 horses while you have 230. Plus, I have a manual tranny, whereas you just put your car AUTOMATIC in neutral to rev your wimpy engine. I didn’t rev my engine back but I was ready to race. The light turns green, and I SMOKE the kid. COMPLETE OBLITERATION. At the next stop light he did not bother to rev his engine. What did he think, that by revving his engine, I would think for a second that his little 328 was an M3 or something? He is not alone; there are quite a few people who think they have something, with their AUTO 328s. Not to mention those with 525is, which are even more pathetic. Just stop. You're not cool. You have nothing in the engine bay. Stop revving your engine in hopes of scaring off someone. A TL, G35, GS, IS, they can all burn you. If you are going to waste your money on a BMW at least get a powerful one like my 335i that will not embarass you at a stoplight. A 328i and 525i are seriously going to make you look like a fool. I have seen a LEXUS RX350 smoke a 328i and 525i. In fact there are many cars that can smoke those two. Sonatas, Accords, CAMRYS and Escalades. I suggest that everyone who wants this car, forget about it and get a G35/Audi A4/TL, save yourself 7-9K and get a car that is as good as any 3 series. Audi's are nicer in and out, and have AWD. G35's drive almost as good. TL’s have better technology, interiors, and exteriors. They are all cheaper than a BMW. Don’t buy a BMW. EVERYONE HAS a 3 anyways.
