Interesting read. At least edmunds managed to find a 335 that was not provided by Infiniti, unlike MT.

Ok, I keep silent no more. Edmunds are you guys getting paid by BMW?!! First I own and love my BMW.
My gripe is that its not a fair comparison because the 335 in reality cost about $50k. You guys should be the first the know that BMW nickel and dimes buyers for everything.
At that price, the difference is too large. The appropriate comp is the 328 which price is in the low 40s w/ options.

2nd, on edmunds first review of the g37 comments were that the head room was good and now its not?

Please from know on gives us the whole picture. thanks

It's never really exactly fair. But even at $8G more, some will prefer to pay that for the edge. I most likely would and did in 2006 G vs. 330.

The only thing that confused me was this:

The BMW held only a surprisingly slim advantage in ride comfort over the Infiniti, perhaps because of the 335i's run-flat tires.

Unless I missed it, the G has GFT's. How the heck can the editors say the RFT's are better?

Unless the 335 Conti's, the SP ride beating the G would be saying something. I have to experience that myself.

True Costs Comparisons- Leases by metaphysics

The point about fair cost comparisons is even more magnified when you consider that MANY of these cars will be leased. Infiniti's lease programs are SIGNIFICANTLY less expensive than BMWs. Better residuals and MFs.

I'm currently in a 2006 M35x and when I was shopping, the rag comparisons were always to the BMW 5 series. But when I went to the dealers, the lease payment comparison was between the M35x and the 3 series. Couldn't touch a similarly equipped 5 series for anything close.

It would be great if someone did a comparison a typical Tier 1 customer lease rate with $0 down. I'm sure that would change the whole impression.

In my experience, the BMW leases are better than Infiniti.. At least on these two models..

Once you take BMW's included maintenance into account, it tilts the equation even more to their favor..

Just accept there is a significant price disparity between Infiniti G35s and the BMW 3 Series--it's a fact of life.

There are reasons for this. First, the Infiniti has one engine option, and The 3 series has 2 options by model (328 and 335). Second, the Infiniti includes a lot of standard features that are pricey options in a BMW. Third, BMW prices its cars at substantial premium, while Infiniti does not. This price premium is based in part on the reputation and cache of the BMW marque.

All one can do is compare the G35 and 335 on performance, handling, ride, etc. A buyer can decide for themselves whether the additional cost for the BMW is worth it to them personally. It was for me, but not everyone. Some will conclude they can buy the G35 with 300 hp for roughly the same as a BMW 329 with 230 hp. Others will want the BMW 328 for the mere cache of the marque, regardless of the difference in engine power (not everyone cares).

Interestingly, Motor Trend picked the G35 over the 335 due largely to its price advantage given similar performance. Edmunds did not seem to find this a major point of consideration, placing more emphasis on driving experience and performance.

Maybe I must have read it wrong, but the $42,000 price for the G37 seemed quite a bit higher than the price on the G37 that was in the comparo in Motortrend? They were both G37 Sports. I'm trying to find what I did with the Motortrend article so I can look it up.

I just configured a 335i coupe for me with ZPP and ZSP. $44,715.

Not too bad.

Interestingly, Motor Trend picked the G35 over the 335 due largely to its price advantage given similar performance.

MT also weighted in the fact that their 335i oil temp was approaching unoperational status during the test.
