it makes sense that it takes forever for it to come here; they have to tailor it for our tastes, and they ARE a euro company, so their peeps get the goods first. it makes sense.

If they want to compete with BMW X3 than VW Tiguan should be offered with the excellent VW / Audi V6 3.0 litre Turbo Diesel engine already available in Audi A4, A6, Q7 and Touareg.
 
I think that 2.0 litre TD engine will struggle with the weight of this SUV which is about 1700 kg.( 3650 pounds)
 
The BMW X3 3.0 TD accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds !
This is a better than VW Golf GTI with DSG which will need 6.9 second with DSG and 7.2 sec with manual transmission.

just like the honda crv and toyota rav 4 does not compete with the bmw x3, the vw wont either, as they are not neccesarily a luxury brand, but more of an 'upmarket' brand.
 
the 2.0 has plenty of torque and will yield great mileage. it will do fine.
 
and the gti dsg is quicker to 60 with the dsg than 6.9 seconds. its more like 6.5.

Well here in the UK the BMW X3 is more of a gangster mobile, will be placing my order for the new Tiguan in November, hope to receive early mid-January a very well constructed, reliable and practical vehicle, which proves cost-effective to run.

I am just outraged about the the unavailability of 6M with the 4-motion. In Colorado, an SUV w/o the 4WD is near useless. But slushboxes, even with manual modes, just plain stink. Let's look at our choices, ladies and gentlemen, if we were to restrict our search to AWD/4WD wagon/SUV with manual tranny:
1) BMW X3 - sure, if you've got 40 big ones. Getting a used one means having to get extended warranty for $1700.
2) Audi A4 Quattro Avant. - better priced, but known reliability issues, smallish
3) Toyota FJ Cruiser - great truck but awful fuel economy and visibility.
4) Porsche Cayenne/VW Touareg - pricey, and very unreliable according to JD powers.
Not a single Japanese vehicle with 5M or 6M in wagon or SUV form. Outrageous!

I guess you could add the Subaru Forester 2.5 (and 2.5 XT) to your list of AWD utes with manual trannies, although the US Forester has a 5-Speed, not 6. (Our Forester has been a lousy car though.) Nissan's 4WD XTerra has a 6-Speed Manual and mated to the 261 HP 4.0L VQ-40, it's a blast to drive. (I have a 2WD Nissan Frontier with this same combination and get 23+ MPG on regular gas).
 
I hear ya on the manual tranny situation tho. We'd replace our Forester tomorrow if we could find something with a stick, of similar size (Hyundai Santa Fe is much larger), luggage capacity and fuel economy.

Same here!
I have been waiting for something like this that would offer 4 wheel drive & manual.
 
Here is a possible venue to let them know what we want:

And shoot them an e-mail under VW information Center about how you want a 4motion with 6speed!
 
I already did.
 
May be they'll listen if they get enough e-mails- or not -but at least we've tried.

Apparently MT's don't fare that well in CUV sales, as Subaru also ditched a MT for their XT Turbo model (nearly every XT review wails about that loss).
 
Then again, the Tiguan's new. Give VW a few years to sort it out and perhaps they will offer an MT with 4-motion.
 
FYI, Tiguan came in third for the recent CU cuv comparison; they particularly liked its interior. Only major gripes were its cost compared to the RAV4 and Forester XT, and its acceleration .vs mileage (about 2 seconds slower to 60 mph, and same mpg as Forester XT).
