What is this discussion about? Mercedes-Benz 350-Class, Sedan

Article comments for Full Test: 2008 Mercedes-Benz C350 Sport - This week, we managed to pry a 2008 Mercedes-Benz C350 away from its press introduction in Portland, Oregon, and drove it all the way back to our offices in Santa Monica, California. What we learned on this 1,000-mile drive and after instrumented track testing shows us that Mercedes-Benz is serious about the C-Class' competition. (more)

edmund's review of the 2008 c350 sounds decent to me. i recently traded a 2004 toyota corolla for a cpo 2006 c280 rwd. i have not yet driven the 2008 c class, but i can assure 500lbman that driving my c280 isnt at all like driving my corolla. i wonder if his view is related more to a desire to move new 2008 models out the door rather than to the pre 2008's relative worthiness?

as any mb owner will attest, and as i quickly and happily discovered, the mb is a driver's car, designed and built for highways without speed limits. my c280 is solid, well powered, inexpensive at the gas pump and when the insurance bill comes, well mannered, comfortable and comforting, and handsome. frankly i found the 2008 c's looks to be off-putting, overly angular and aggressive, which is why i chose a pre 2008 c for my first mb. buying a cpo with 19,000 miles also saved me a bit of change for what was essentially a new car. my corolla was reliable, quick around town, easy and cheap to maintain, not really a driver's car, but not intended to be. maybe i should try a 2008 c class, if i can get past what consider to be its unpretty looks, but my 2006 is quite fine so far.

You are probably right about the old body style C-Class. The C280 has the same motor and transmission as the new C300. And the old body style is a fine car compared to many out there. I guess sometimes I took them for granted because I am exposed to them all the time, and they are along side all the $50k/$60k/and $100k cars.

hi 500lb man, thanks for your reply. with no intention to be insulting at all, your comment about taking the lower end mb models for granted is indicative of a problem for mb. here in north america we view mb as solely a luxury model. consequently, a first time mb buyer such as myself, who doesnt have wads of cash to burn or a business that can write off a lease, is sometimes treated with disdain by mb dealers. i bought my cpo 280 in ohio, as an out of state buyer. while shopping by phone and online, i had the best experiences in ohio and pa. i had the worst experiences in the nyc area, topped by a salesman at the mb-owned dealer in manhattan even asking me on my first inquiry why i called and saying that we have no further need for conversation. polite, informed conversations, knowledge of inventory, and timely replies to email and phone calls were lacking. i would like to think that im not a difficult fellow or lousy customer; im a diplomat who has learned to get along well with all kinds of folks while serving around the world in the past 24 years, i have great credit and top level security clearances, i manage dozens of staff, and i oversee millions of dollars of revenues and budgets. anyway my point is that mb shouldnt take for granted the entry level models. i came to mb later in life, but im lucky to have two successful sons who may well be earlier customers of mb. cheers,

I understand how you feel, and I have heard that about M-B dealers from time to time. I don't mean to imply that I ever take the client for granted. Based on the time of year and the internal programs M-B is offering to sales people, sometimes you can make a higher commision on a C-Class than a car or SUV costing twice as much. So it is silly to pre-judge clients if you are a salesperson.

What State are you in? You mentioned you have lots of 2008 C350's in your lot. Here in WA state, there has been a delay in production, been pushed back to Feb 2008. I placed my order in, last month and was told it would ready end of Oct or early Nov, but now won't be ready. I cancelled my order and now am looking to get it earlier, any suggestions? Even if I purchased it any state, I would have to pay the car sales tax where I live which is fine with me. It seems your a sales person yourself so if you were close by, I would make a trip to see you and discuss further my purchase. Thanks

Hang on a sec - you are asking 500lbman to violate the Membership Agreement. It's great that he's sharing experiences here, but he can't use the Forums to sell cars just as you can't use the Forums to buy one.

The link to the Membership Agreement is at the bottom of the page. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

I would not use these forums to sell cars if I could. My dealership typically does not do business out of state because it can be very shady.

I don;t know why you cannot get the new C-Class in your state. It has been available for almost 2 months here. And we are getting more in all the time. The problem is there are no cars available with the new multimedia package. That is the option that drives the C-Class value beyond all other cars. It is the M-B COMAND system right out of the S-Class. Only cars that have been ordered by clients are showing up with the MM package. Cars that are ordered by the dealership to stock the lot are not available with the MM package, and won't be for another few months according to my inventory.

However, to me the C350 with P2 package and a 6-disc changer would be a car I would be very happy to own and drive. I think they are awesome!

Overall I am in love with this 2008 C350. There is a new CURE edition which comes fully loaded, the dealer is saying he will sell this only at MSRP which is around 44K... which i feel is really 2 much... has anyone in New Jersey or nearby state bought this CURE edition or the regular C350 for below the MSRP? Please post your comments if there is a dealer in New Jersey who can offer a good deal...thanks The dealer in Lawrenceville, NJ quoted that they dont sell below MSRP. If anyone ordered this car, whats the best price so far? About the car..I would agree to some extent that initially when you hit the gas there is no immediate response & there is also some wind noise when ur at 80-90+

Actually, the discussion you are looking for is at this link: Mercedes-Benz C-Class Prices Paid & Buying Experience. That's where you can get that kind of feedback.

Good luck!

Hi, thats great that others have the vehicle already in different states. Over at Seattle, the demand is so much that my order has been delayed and will arriving end of January 2008. I decided to add the multimedia option and TELE AID OPTION..i know there has been problems in the past with the TELE AID analog system and a class lawsuit, however, on January 2008, MB will be going digital on all the TELE AID systems which may be a more efficient system. Any comments on the this? Thanks
