That it does; three newcoming American cars which all hope to knock Toyonda off the throne. If Saturn had Fusion's ride/handling, or Ford had GM's power and interior style, they could really take the country by storm.

I think the Malibu and G6 Pontiac should be included since they are both on basically the same platform. I did see some minor differences in suspension components between models. When I test drove the 07 Malibu, it was lethargic and the 07 G6 was crisp, too crisp and rigid for my style of driving.
I know the 08 Malibu will be on the German chassis but wonder what Chevrolet will do the the spring and shock package.

I have not driven the Fusion but I doubt it could compare to the Aura XR in price/performance or quality of finish.
I just checked the Edmunds report... Too sad... Poor performance comfortable ride(?) Didn't like the Auto Trans... A 221 H-P V-6 that only brings 26 MPG Highway. Put the Fusion in the class of cars I would buy for my mother (rest her sole).
I wonder if the reason is too few ponies for the tonnage?

There that ought to get some thing going on this forum.

I bought a 3.5L Sebring Limited several weeks ago. I didn't test drive an Avenger but they are built on the same assembly line and share most of the same components. My wife and I liked the looks of the Sebring a little more.

Anyway, before I bought it, I also test drove an AWD 3.0L Fusion. That was one of the choices on my list, along with stopping by the Saturn dealer to see what they had to offer.

I thought the Fusion was close in performance to the Sebring 3.5L with the 6-speed autostick but I just couldn't get used to all the chrome on the front end. That, plus the interior was sort of ho-hum, as compared to the gadgets that were included with the Sebring Limited. The MyGIG infotainment and navigation system is way cool.

I also test drove a 2.7L Sebring Touring but I wasn't impressed with the acceleration. If the 3.5L hadn't been significantly better I probably would have bought something else.

I never made it down the road to the Saturn dealer - that Chrysler salesman was pretty good.

I actually had a 2001 Sebring 2.7L (same engine as the 2.7L in the current generation) that I drove for > 6 years before trading it in on my Aura XR. The Chrysler served me well, but it was time to move on. The power advantage the Saturn has over the Chrysler is very striking.

Car and Driver clocked the Sebring 2.7 L at one time to to 0-60 in 8.9 sec. The new Sebring 3.5 was 6.8. The Fusion V6 7.4. The Aura XR was the quickest at 6.2. These are all from the same publication (Car and Driver), so they should be comparable to each other.

Thanks for jump starting this thread. I hadn't seen the reply to my message I posted soon after I bought my Sebring.

Anyway, time for an update. I've had my 3.5L Sebring for three months now and the smile on my face when I drive it is still as big as ever.

Today we had our first significant snowstorm and I was interested to see how it would do. I was surprised at how well it handled in the snow. The combination of ABS, traction control, ESP and front wheel drive made the trip home from work enjoyable.

The remote start, that I've tested up to 660 ft so far, has really come in handy on cold evenings when I get off work, especially when there's ice on the windshield. By the time I get to my car no more ice. The heated front seats can really make things toasty.

Anyway, I'm still very much enjoying my Sebring playground on wheels, whether it is the king of the 0-60 time or not. I think if a quick 0-60 was my primary concern I'd take my Viper out to play more often.

Test Drive Avenger 4 cylinder by badgerfan

I test drove a 4 cylinder Avenger last week, mostly because the dealer was having a big promotion and giving away some freebies.

I was highly unimpressed. The 4 cylinder version is ridiculously noisy when pushed even a little bit, and it had to downshift two gears under even fairly slight throttle application at about 40-50 mph on flat roads. Hard to believe Chrysler put effort into a new model that performs so poorly. I am not new car market, but I quickly decided even if I was, this would not be the vehicle of choice. My 2000 Taurus SES with the Duratech V-6 is a much more satisfying vehicle, and I am going to keep it at least another 3-4 years. My sister-in law's new 4 cylinder Hyundai Sonata was much quieter and smoother than this Avenger
