| I'm having similar issues with my 03 Navigator. My driver side running board gets stuck in the out position, and then when I am driving it is attempts retract over and over again. I purchased this vehicle in December of 07 with 56,000 miles and immediately started having problems. I notified the dealership (Mahwah Hummer) which was an absolute waste. I was told that it was my fault that I must have hit something and bent the board. I then took the car to Smith and Cairns in Yonkers and was told that there is an electrical problem, now after the electrical problem was addressed I am now being told that it is a motor problem. My Warranty Company is covering 1.2 hr of the 2 hrs their being billed, the balance belongs to me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the motor is covered, it not I now sure what do. Any suggestions would be great! | |

They will check the motor out and tell you there is nothing wrong with it so you need a new running board/ motor (about $2500). You see, they say the 03 had a sort of integrated board and motor unlike the newer models so they can not just change one. The dealer failed to tell you this prior to recommending and checking it out because that is money in their pocket. I know this site has been wonderful in keeping some people linked about this issue but perhaps we should contribute and set up a dedicated and narrowly focused site specifically to campaign for a recall, including going after dealers. I am suggesting dealers as well as Ford motors because they are assisting the company to perpetuate this fraud of “the issue being isolated”. |

I just got back from Whitaker lincoln Mercury in Inver Grove Heights, MN today. I had issues with my power running board on the driver's side. It's all rusty and stop working. It also killed the motor. My warranty covers the motor but not the rust, therefore I can't get it fix. I need to pay from my own pocket $1500 to get a new one installed. I said no and rather spend that money for the gas. This really sucks due to the fact that we spent $60000 for that car and I can't even put up with the rust for more than 4 years. Pathetic. I thought that I was the only one but now that I see all your comments, it makes more sense. It's happening with all the 03 models. The funny part is that's happening only on the driver's seat. Why? We need to do something about that... |

I have an '03 Navigator which has only 69K miles. The problem used to occur intermittently noticeably after driving in wet conditions the running board on the drive side will stay out. When the car in motion the running board would retract. Because of this my truck continously display the message "Door ajar". Another issue I am having is with the side mirrors not working like it should. When I first start up the truck the both side mirrors will attempt to position itself but then appears to get stuck making continous clicking noise. When I try to adjust with the control it seems like its not calibrating. For example if I attempt to ajust the mirror to tilt down it will go up and when I have it tilt right it will tilt left. Has anyone experienced this before. I really need advise before I pay costly repair fees. I know others can relate. My truck is no longer under warranty. Even when it was the dealer told me that wasn't covered. So I'm basically hanging. Please Help!

Replying to: buklan1 (May 19, 2008 8:08 pm) Another prob i have now and my car is in the shop..... Huge squeaky/gurgle seemingly under car in the suspension. It sounds like a horse jogging with fluid in its gut. You hear it instantly upon putting car in drive. Both at low and high speeds and especially if its bumpy/ in a parking lot. The dealership heard it just pulling out of the service bay. They replaced sway bar and bushings under warranty. I picked it up and didnt even leave parking lot and it was still doing it. They now have had the car 5 days (no rental or loaner vehicle given to me I already had ABS speed sensor replaced out of pocket (at the dealership I bought it at) for an intermittent breaking failure PERFECTLY described in this forum. I documented this forum to ford headquarters and they still wouldn't warranty it becasue the problem couldn't be duplicated... Well let me tell you i should have sent them the underwear i was wearing the two times it happend. Can anyone comment on my horrible squeaky chassis??? Nobody can find the problem and its awful loud. |

Can anyone tell me which year of the navigator has the power running boards that are controllable? I know the new models have the running boards come out automatically when you open the door but I know there were models where you can control when they came in and out. Thanks.
