Article comments for First Drive: 2007 HSV Grange - e smart money says the Holden Statesman/Caprice will become the 2010 Chevrolet Impala. Despite GM's Bob Lutz saying rear-wheel-drive models may not be the automaker's future, we're also willing to bet (hope) that this hotted-up version, the HSV Grange, built by Holden Special Vehicles, will be the 2010 Impala SS. The rumor is this will be the 2010 Impala. Take a look and then post your comments here. First Drive: 2007 HSV Grange |

So there will be 2 V8's offered correct? Will there be a base V6 offered also? Styling wise it looks good. From the side it reminds me of a mini Audi A8L which certainly is bad by any means and the inside looks like it was ripped out of the current VW Passat which again..isnt a bad thing. I actually prefer this to the Chrysler twins. Good to see GM with more intersting sedans even though they didnt officially develop this one. |

| In my opinion it's too big and too heavy. I would prefer if it were a direct competitor to the 3-Series and Infiniti G35. How do other readers feel about this? | |
| This vehicle is essential for Chevy. It's smart looking and appears to be nicely finished. This will compete against the Avalon and Taurus/Crown Vic. The trimmer, more athletic Pontiac G8 will be a contender aginast the 3-Series, S4 and G35. I never thought I'd see the day that GM is making no-excuses vehicles. After thirty years of garbage from GM, hell has finally frozen over. | |
| Admittedly by the time the car hits our shores it will have taken on more Chevy cues, but from these photos (especially the profile and rear) you can see a real resemblance to the current Impala. With the new Malibu taking on a fresh look, it will be interesting to see if the Impala version of this RWD vehicle continues in the direction of the current FWD Impala style-wise, or if it takes on more of a retro/macho look (or something completely different). | |

While I am a big a fan as anybody of more choices in relatively affordable 400hp+ cars, from a big picture perspective GM is stumbling again. From a brand portfolio perspective Pontiac is supposed to be GM's "performance" division. So why is GM positioning the Impala SS above the Pontiac G8 GT in horsepower? And, from a pricing standpoint, Pontiac should have a price premium over Chevy because of that "performance" positioning, so this larger-sized 412hp Impala SS should be be priced less than the 362hp G8 GT. GM has been on the right track from a product perspective, but they have to get their brands straight so we all understand what they mean. Do you think an Infiniti would every have less horsepower than a similar Nissan model? Two good things could come of this, however. 1) if it happens, the Pontiac G8 GXP must be well over 425hp, and 2) U.S. buyers get two nice rwd 400+hp sedans from GM. |

I dont think the rear will change much as its pretty much dead on the current Impala's rear which is fairly attractive. The front will probably change slightly with the addition of Chevy's signature bowtie grill. I wish GM would do a bit more to seperate the Impala from the G8 as most of the attractive styling elements are used in both vehicles. At least the interiors feature totally different layouts. So far so good. |

How stupid is this article? Great, an Impala SS or whatever. Now, get Americans to get their heads out of their asses and buy the American vehicles without the presumption that American vehicles are crap and we'll save our domestic automaking economy! |

It makes sense to have the Impala return as a full size rwd car... but wow, 4200 lbs? 400 hp? Is that really needed? As much as I like the idea of this car, from a practicality standpoint, unless they can tune this thing to get close to 30 on the highway, count me out. And I've wanted an Impala SS like this for 20 years. I almost bought a new 1996 until I discovered the local dealer charged $5000 extra for special orders. The car needs to go on a diet and show up with an optional new 2.9L diesel V6 with the two mode hybrid option to push well over 40 mpg. That would get me onto the lot. And make the SS package optional on all trim levels. The current Impala is compliant but a little sloppy at speed. Lest you think I'm crazy, remember that the Impala SS could be had with every engine and transmission option back in the day, even the inline 6 cylinder! I'd be happy with 300 hp, rwd, 30+ mpg on the highway, a tighter suspension, and a higher quality interior. A red interior, while you're at it. |
