You are in the Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable Forum.

What is this discussion about? Ford Taurus, Sedan

Article comments for First Drive: 2008 Ford Taurus - For better or worse, Ford has realized that four out of five car buyers have heard of the Taurus, which sold almost 7 million units in the nameplate's 21 years on the market, and the same couldn't be said of the slow-selling Five Hundred. You can't buy the kind of brand awareness the Taurus has. Well, actually you could, but Ford estimates it would cost a half billion dollars. (more)

I have a 2007 Mustang V6 and a 2006 Fusion I4 SE. I wish that Ford would put the round hvac vents that are in the Mustang, the MKZ, and all of the Pick-ups into every car/suv/cuv/truck that Ford makes.

I really hate trying to adjust the little square vents on the Fusion, which are basically the same as the ones on the new Taurus. The Edge and MKX can be even more annoying because there is no way to keep it from blowing on you hand while you have your hand on the steering wheel.

The round vent can be swivled 360 degrees and sends the air in any possible direction with very little effort.

Mark.

I like my ground sitting truck (marquis) because I have no payments on it. Having no payments is what makes a really nice car. Don't get me wrong though the new Taurus satisfys me against the competition.

Hey, tell us about it!

Have they improved the audio system? Do you agree with Edmunds first drive comments about the car? Also, did you compare it to any other cars when shopping? Thanks.

Anyone know when Ford might update their website to build the x? It seems odd that the x is coming out ...

I came across a picture of a Mercury CUV on http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/automotive_news/4219078.html
This vehicle is supposed to be a model that was shelved by Ford, well anyway, so says the guys at Popular Mechanics. I think that they are wrong about this. I think that this model will be produced at a later date. This CUV looks to be the Mercury version of the Ford Taurus X. Look closely at the headlight cluster, the new satin aluminum grill, and the lower front fascia. They ALL look like styling cues from the 2008 Mercury Sable.

Compare these pictures. The first one is from the Mercury CUV at http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/automotive_news/4219078.html and the second one is at http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-taurus-sable-on-track/293664/ , the fact that the Montego has been somewhat redesigned to become the Sable (once again), proves that this CUV had to have been designed recently. This Mercury CUV looks like it is going to be the Mercury version of the Ford Taurus X. What do you think guys?

Has anyone tried to put 3 child car seats in back and if so how is it working out for you? I checked a 500 out yesterday and was pleasantly surprised with it's dimensions relative to the Chevy Impala. The only disappointment to me was it seems a little tighter in back with car seat relative to the Impala. The Taurus has incredible rear leg room and the trunk is massive! This car just doesn't look that big to me when you drive by it.

The salesman mentioned they'd have a new Taurus in soon and I want to give this car a second look. If it's quieter and has more power, I may be a buyer if I can get the car seat issue worked out.

#32 of 44 New 2008 Taurus SEL by mkarklins

I just bought a 2008 Taurus SEL yesterday. It's too soon to be objective, but I love it. I had read up on the 2008 Taurus/Five Hundred, but I hadn't realized that they had only just started shipping them.

At the largest Ford dealership in Southern California, Galpin Ford, they only had 4 models in stock. I ended up buying one of them and according to Edmond's pricing guidelines, I paid $600 below TMV.

I hope the honeymoon lasts. My previous car was also a Taurus, a 1995 model. It was forcefully retired last week at almost 206k miles -- still on the original engine and transmission. My water pump went out on the Freeway, and before I could get over to the side of the road, my engine had seized. If I can get anywhere near that on the 2008, I'll be happy.
