Refinement... by draw007

Ouch. $46K for their "muscle" car?

Sorry, I'm into much more refinement for my money. Yes, some will be sold but come'on- we're in the age of S4s and M3s, etc.

No, none of them are built in the U.S. however, but when one is spending a considerable amount of their income on a monthly car payment it better offer more than smokey burnouts with $300+ apiece tires.

None of the Charger's I've seen on the streets provide that comparable lust factor - even if I saw this yellow jacket.

I checked out the "slide show". Good pictures! I especially liked the reprint of the '68 Super Bee ad. The ad is actually 40 years old, not 30. Thirty years ago (1977-78), anything rolling down a Mopar assembly line was BORING! Nowhere near the level of excitement generated between 1966 and 1971!

Fade to 2007..... 425HP, but NO manual tranny option, and NO limited slip differential? How much $$ are they charging for this?? The Challenger is supposedly based on a shortened Charger/Magnum/300 chassis. I hope they make a different decision!

From all my knowlege, the original Hemi Superbee can easily dip into the 13s in the quarter mile.

You can't forget the "low" displacment and "low" tourque of the new model. Also, in 1968, you could get a Superbee Hemi (with the real 426 Hemi) for around $3850 (approximaely $23000 today)! It can run the quarter mile in 13.5 seconds at 105 mph and 0-60mph at 5.3 seconds (with its heavy duty 4 speed MANUAL transmission), which is about on par with the new Charger Superbee (with its computerized auto transmission). The new Superbee is loaded with tons of crap which jacks up the price to near $50000 and probably slows it down some. The real 1968 Superbee was a Coronet two door sedan, not a Charger, and definitly NOT a 4 door.

You have to admit the technology has made a big differance.
You have a 370 cubic inch making as much horespower as a 426 cubic inch, and is just as fast.Plus there were tons of automatic Hemi cars during the 60s and early 70s.If you watch Barett-Jackson,most Hemi cars are automatics.Plus this 5 speed can handle 580 lbs. of torque, thats pretty good.Plus you now have the 5 speed compared to the 3 speed torqueflight, which was a great tranny. So I think I rather have today's Super Bee.I use to have a 68 Road Runner so I lived through the good old days.

The W5A580 is rated at 580 Newton Meter and 1 Newton Meter is equal to 0.737 lb-ft.
Therefore the maximum torque it can handle is 427 lb-ft which is very near the limits of the SRT8 torque output. I would be worried about transmission life if owners do a lot of WOT.

If a torqueflight handled the Hemi I'm sure the 580 will have no problem.
