Nope, because the Fit gives a short burst, but could not maintain it on a slight incline. The XD was slightly slower within the first thirty seconds, but made up for it afterwards. I can easily get in and out of traffic with the XD, and it is close to my old 3 liter v6 as far as pickup. The Fit just hesitated to much to be useful on the freeway. It would be like driving a Geo with everyone whizzing around you and honking.

Scion xD gets great MPG based on driving speed. My odo reading is 1350miles

55mph -> 48 mpg (average highway)
65mph -> 43 mpg (average highway)
Mix highway/City (my commute) -> 39 mpg

I love the xD, high visiblity seating, sturdy built, great sound system, mpg computer onboard..

I used to have a civic, was partial to Honda and checked out the fit sport a lot before buying an xD. They are close, but the xD has some cool features the fit can't match in 2008, maybe 2009 model will be better.

Scion xD has an outstanding 1.8 L engine. It is not the kind of engine that auto magazines write about, nor is it something you are likely to brag about at a drive-in on a Friday night. But this engine (2ZR-FE) provides an excellent real-world performance and a good mileage, which has long been the trademark of Toyota's 1.8 engines, aka hidden gems. Scien xD carries on with these admirable characteristics.

We have a Fit, but can certainly appreciate what xD offers. You cannot go wrong with either.

Scion does not seem as "fit" as the FIT by texastrixie

I am reading this website because we have to buy a new fuel efficient car for communiting. I was going ga-ga over the write-ups on the Scion D until I started reading the repair and maintenance log for an older Scion model - worries me about motors throwing rods and windshields cracking, etc. Scion is going to the bottom of the list, but FIT is probably back. Thanks for all the useful info.

My wife & I test drove the Fit one day & the xD the next.. First the Fit.... Fell in love with the fantastic rear seat system! Felt peppy and nimble around town, but had a lump in my throat when I tried to get on the X-way in rush hour traffic... Not that I don't sometimes get the same lump in my Ford Ranger 4-banger... Was impressed overall.
Went home and happened to talk to my next-door neighbor, a car-nut who for no particular reason had test driven the Fit that same day on his way back from Ohio. He also liked it but said I should check out the Scion xD.... I had never heard of it and the Toyota dealer where I had driven a Yaris never mentioned it....(his mistake)
Next day we drive the xD at a different Toy dealer and it''s game over... No ultra cool rear seat system BUT what a difference in performance.... hard for me to believe the test score for 0 to 60.... but using the on-ramp left me totally "Lump-less" My buggy is now 2 months old and she's still the cutest bug in the parking lot!
