Has anyone gone through the process of importing an Xtrail to the USA? What's involved? How hard/expensive is it? Where do I get started?

There have been several threads dealing with importing the X-Trail in the main Nissan X-Trail (we want it!) discussion. You should have a look at that and use the search feature.
You may also get some good tips in Importing Canadian Vehicles to the U.S..

I donīt know if this helps. I drove an X-Trail 2005 bought in Mexico but made in Japan. I was told I can have it titled here in Missouri since It has passed the DEQ controls in two occasions and there is some paper work to fill out if I want to get it done. It is a fuel efficient vehicle, easy to drive but I am not too savvy to get it fixed if something goes wrong. the local Nissan dealer has been able to service but I am not sure they would be able to fix a major problem. I have considered to sell it here if I get through the process. I was also considering taking it back to Mexico if the title or the sale wonīt work. I came to the US a year ago in June 2008, so, it is in almost mint condition.

Nissan sold the X-Trail in Canada for a while too, but dumped it in '08 for the Rogue. That may help you get it titled since most Canadian vehicles can be imported to the US.
