Article comments for Full Test: 2008 BMW 535i - What does BMW's new twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 engine do for the 5 Series? This 2008 BMW 535i test car with an automatic transmission effectively equaled the acceleration of a 2006 BMW 550i equipped with a manual transmission. The 535i's 5.5-second acceleration to 60 mph proves a sedan doesn't need the 550i's V8 engine to be quick. (more)

I did not see that on the web page, and did not see it listed in the brochure or the list of options the salesman gave me. I also noticed someone discussing an option for a different headliner, but did not see that listed. Are there special options for which you need to ask the salesman to custom order? Thanks Bruce |

the link is: http://jon.bimmerfest.com/bulletins/MY2008_E60Ordering_Guide.pdf hope that's OK with the admin. Your client-advisor (CA) should know about them otherwise he/she hasn't done their jobs. Yes they are semi-custom order; I heard dealer can't order them unless it's a pre-sold car dictated by customer. Hope that's help.

Is it possible to order the shadowline trim as a solo option. The code is 339 under the Sport Package Option(ZSP). Does anyone know what the M Spoiler looks like? Its available in the accessories section on bmw.com. |

Replying to: KarenS (Jun 05, 2007 7:52 am) Great article! Found another great article on the 2008 5-Series at: http://digiads.com.au/car-news/latest-BMW-news/2008_BMW_5_Series_Updated_200705.html I am in the market for a new car to replace my 2001 MB C320. I usually keep my cars for quite a number of years, so I hate to get into the the 2008 535xi and one year later a brand new model is introduced. According to Edmunds.com, the next 5-series comes out in Fall 2008 as MY2009: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/FVDP/Preview/styleId=100813399 Some sites quote the next model to be out as a 2010. Who is correct? So far I am very impressed with what I read about the 2008 535xi, but I look forward to "the next-generation 2009 BMW 5 Series which softens the harder lines of the current E60 with more conventional-looking headlights and a cleaner front-end design." (edmunds.com) I am very tempted to go for the 2008 535xi if it has a few more years to go until the next generation arrives, but if it is next year, I think I'll wait. Advice and comments please. Thank you |

is the best bet of predicting the future. BMW has about 7 years of life cycle on 5-series model. The new E60 body style was introduced in late 2003 as 2004 MY(model year). So, I think the next body style will come out as 2011 MY in mid or early of 2010. In any business, sales dictate decision and nothing else. BMW 5-series (E60) is out-taking Benz E-series (W221) in US sales number. I can't imagine BMW changing model when sales is doing so well. For comparison, the last Benz E-class, W220, was the longest I know of in it's class it lasted 11 years, from 1992 to 2002. Why it stayed in the market so long, well because it kept on selling. I think BMW will change 5-series 1 year or so after Benz come out with W222(in my mind the only competition BMW is paying attention on). Until then E60 will stay. The other factor, Audi A6 is not due for change just mid-cyle upgrade. Lexus GS is not about to change either and Infinity M sales is rather slow and forget Cadilac. But again, I was proven wrong many times before.

It was a nice car, but I traded it in for a 2004 Lexus RX330 AWD because I lost control of my E320 in the 2002 snowstorm, and I got stuck in a snow pile and could not get out. Thank God no one was hurt, and the car did not have a scratch on it either. My 2001 C320 handles better in snow and ice than my 1996 E320. I am looking for an AWD to replace my C320 in the very near future. I tested both the Infiniti M35x and G35x and didn't quite like them. I tried the BMW X5 3.0i and had trouble claiming in and out of it, although I enjoy driving it once I got in. The 2008 C-class will be out soon and could be a possibility. I have never owned a BMW (owned 2 Acuras, 2 M-Benz and a Lexus), so the 535xi looks interesting. I'll venture out to give it a try soon.
