Article comments for Full Test: 2008 BMW 535i - What does BMW's new twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 engine do for the 5 Series? This 2008 BMW 535i test car with an automatic transmission effectively equaled the acceleration of a 2006 BMW 550i equipped with a manual transmission. The 535i's 5.5-second acceleration to 60 mph proves a sedan doesn't need the 550i's V8 engine to be quick. (more)

Same speed as the 550, but $10K less and 8 mpg more. Sounds good.

2007. I think that all 3 series and all 5 series cars came with run-flat tires. From another review elsewhere, for 2008 - at least the 535i - run flats are an OPTION. Now that is a big deal for folks like me that like BMW, but, will not buy run-flats. Maybe I can buy a new BMW again. I wonder how the writer missed this big turnaround by BMW. Replying to: abqhudson (Jun 06, 2007 5:14 pm) I just ordered a 535xi, and can confirm the standard wheels and tires are 17", 50 series, GFTs. I purposely stayed with these as I am replacing an '06 330xi with RFTs. One error I noted in the article is they say leather is standard, and a higher grade leather comes with the sport package. While leather is standard in the 550i, for the 535i that was tested, leatherette is standard and (one grade only) leather is an option. Bruce

535i w/ sport comes with run-flat but also space saver spare. Leather is optional on 535i, a premium package gives you dakota leather and nasca is optional on both 550 and 535i (on 535i you ned a premium to get nasca). I think nasca leather is the one in 750i. I did not see that on the web page, and did not see it listed in the brochure or the list of options the salesman gave me. I also noticed someone discussing an option for a different headliner, but did not see that listed. Are there special options for which you need to ask the salesman to custom order? Thanks Bruce

Replying to: jlbl (Jun 05, 2007 8:42 am) Just picked up my 08 535i w/HD radio, premium sound, rear shades, comfort access, premium pkg, sirius radio. I've owned an 05, 06 and an 07, and I find the 08 powerful and unrelenting as it's speed increases. Interior nicely upgraded and the addition of the presets for satellite and broadcast radio a smart move. I find the new premium sound system with HD radio far superior to last year's system. I wonder if anyone knows if they've changed the upgraded Hi-Fi system from last year to improve sound quality and separation? Definitely the best 5 series I've ever owned.
