No surprises, either in vehicle performance or in Edmunds comments.

For sure, accurate, too.

getting to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds

Feels about right to me. That's actually a lot quicker than the old one, which was clocked around 8.5-9.5 seconds.

Edit: just found Edmunds 2006 Full Test, and wow, 0-60 went from 9.5 to 7.8. That's a rather HUGE improvement.

Mileage went up 0.2mpg, but remember that's on regular fuel.

1/4 mile time was nearly a second quicker, and slalom speed was much faster.

Oddly, it's louder at cruise, despite the taller 5th gear.

A little, sure. So what? Both are attractive.

The old one looked like a Bugatti Veyron. That didn't help sales much.

I agree 100%. It looks exactly like a Santa Fe. The old one was ugly, but at least it was different.

New 2008 Subaru Tribeca = Saab 9-6x? by SubyTrojan

I think it may have been good to mention the similarities it has with the Saab 9-6x. That may have facilitated the amount of money and time it took for Subaru to give the Tribeca its facelift by its third model year.

Bob mentioned it on Straightline here:

Ugly and different, especially as a combo, don't sell.

You don't hear anyone bragging, "Yeah, it's ugly as a baldheaded billygoat, but it doesn't resemble any other car, so I bought it!"

As the biased owner and lover of the unique Andreas Zapatina/Alfa Romeo look of the B9 Tribeca, I can honestly say, that although I'd enjoy the 3.6L, I couldn't see myself buying this new design. That 'one step closer' to looking like a minivan just doesn't work for me.

But- it will for others. Good luck Subaru.

The Slalom and 0-60 times from the Edmunds 2006 Full Test were clearly just plain wrong. they don't match, or even come close to the numbers from the car mags. The slalom times listed 54.5mph, are akin to the likes of an Explorer or Trailblazer that the Tribeca can clearly outhandle by a significant margin. Frankly, I just don't believe those numbers.
