Another biased B9 owner. Actually, I jumped on an 07 because I saw the 08. Just didnt like it. Originally was not too thrilled with the 06, but the SE package gave it the needed subtle difference.

If Subaru put out the 08 design first, then went with the 06-07, I think it would have gathered more interest. Gave the Tribeca a more mainstream introduction, then a more exotic one with the other design.

The pig nose wasn't designed by Zapatinas. Here's what Inside Line Executive Editor, Michael Jordan, said in a comment to his Straightline blog entry with photochops of the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI on 02/06/2007(http://blogs.edmunds.com/Straightline/2270):

Subaru insiders point out that the B11S concept car -- the predecessor to the B9 Tribeca production vehicle -- was the first Subie to incorporate the now-notorious propellor-inspired grille. Subaru designer Kiyoshi Sugimoto led that project, although Barcelona-based Fuore Design Int'l's Erwin Himmer was brought in as a consultant.

It seems clear to us, though, that Andreas Zapatinas' work at Alfa Romeo inspired Subaru's conversion to the big grille look and led to his position as Subaru's design director. Ironically, the controversy about the grille led to Zapatinas' departure last summer just as the Impreza -- the car he most influneced as design director -- neared production.

Zapatinas was born and raised in Greece, and he first got interested in cars as a kid when he saw the Acropolis Rally, so he was very enthusiastic about the new design for the STI.

I agree, Zap never really had a chance. The 06 Tribeca's hard points were all in place by the time he arrived.

On a different note, I think the fact that the 08 will appeal to a different crowd than the 06-07 did is a good thing. Those folks already have one. The 08 will appeal to people that don't already have one.

Sounds like a good business plan to me!

yeah yeah.
I read that article, so technically we cannot blame (or credit) Zapatinas. But it sure has Alfa Romeo traits.

So- that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

gr8 to hear the improvements are with power, always felt it needed 50 more Hp and lb/t, wish the stereo was more bose and less radio shack.....sound is tuly aweful, i have the 06, wish the 08 was feasible but not yet....the MDX, and even the new Hyundai look like good options as does the new Saturn SUV, the outlook.
For me to take another tribeca, i'd need more power still, with even better gas and a way better stereo......subie's always have had crap stereo's, except my '02 VDC with the Mcintosh, why can't they do that again.....with nav and DVD now there's a wow factor.....

I am proud to say that I owned Subaru's from 1993-2003 ranging from the Loyale wagon to the Outback Limited version. I was never disappointed in Subura, the reliability and comfort were always there. I average 30k yearly and was never disappointed. I did stray away to the suv-Toyota Highlander and have to admit I miss the Subaru reliabilty. I am looking forward at the 08-09 Tribeca, 5passenger Limited
version. I would appreciate comments in this area

I have a 2008 7 passenger Ltd. But it is used as a 5 passenger 99% of the time. The other 1% is when we have the grand kids on board. Didn't get the Nav system, rear camera or puddle lights. Did get the factory installed trailer hitch. The only "thing" it needs is a telescoping steering column.

17-18 mpg around town, 22-23 mpg on the freeway at 70-80mph. Great road car, very stable (it's the AWD) in the snow. Great heat/defrosting. Nice having the 3-speed seat heaters. The sport shift is handy for engine braking going down slippery hills (San Francisco of the north-Duluth, MN).

Next year I hope to have a set of Blizzaks on separate wheels- With current financial crisis the tires and wheels are a bit expensive (~$1200).

Hope this helps.......

Those Highlanders are usually reliable, you must've had bad luck.

Any how, prices on the Tribeca are lower so it's not a bad time to go shopping.

If you want to downsize a little then also consider the new Forester. We have a Limited and love ours.
