Article comments for Comparison Test: 2007 BMW 335i vs. 2007 Lexus IS 350 - When we matched these cars against each other in 2006, the newly redesigned 306-hp Lexus IS 350 ran away from the 255-hp BMW 330i with a quicker acceleration to 60 mph by more than a full second. On the other hand, that BMW outmaneuvered the Lexus in every objective and subjective handling category. (more)

Also, the new IS is based of the higher end GS NOT a lower end Toyota.

That said, a comparably equipped 335i is $6-7k more than a IS350. I'd get a G37 Sport, for less than $35k, over either, provided the G37 hasn't lost most of the legendary VQ engines refinement, as has been rumored. Price no object, the 3 is the move. I guess Lexus is really targeting the C-Class. I don't see a point in comparing these 2 vehicles. Apples to oranges. Oh.....whoever said Apples to Oranges first is right. DrFill

BMW or Lexus are too boring or common for my taste. BMW feels like an upgraded Volkswagen, and Lexus just a more expensive version of Toyota. I would go for the Saab 93 Aero 60th Anniversary Edition or Volvo S40 T5. The Swedish counterpart are much more refined in style, a class of its own, and legendary safety and reliability that BMW and Lexus can't match. As for performance in a non-practical 0-60mph test, the BMW might beat the Saab by a blink of the eyes but in a more practical and useful 30-80mph passing performance the Saab 93 Aero can overtake a BMW or Lexus surely and safely. However driving a BMW or Lexus does have some benefit, you can expect to get more resale value and get more notice and recognition because BMW and Lexus are common household name. Drive a Saab or Volvo, gotta make sure you're in the right (well-to-do) neighborhood or talking to the right (educated) crowd. Don't get me wrong BMW and Lexus are great cars and their popularity is well earned among the masses. Though not as popular, more and more find the Scandinavian lifestyle and luxury of Saab and Volvo to be an enlightened choice and a refreshing experience of a higher-class |

Replying to: autoedu (Jun 14, 2007 12:05 am) Sorry dude, that smacks of a biased and unsubstantiated statement. BMWs have been known to be extremely safe vehicles for a loooong time and they pride themselves on that fact. Lexus is no slouch in the safety department either. "As for performance in a non-practical 0-60mph test, the BMW might beat the Saab by a blink of the eyes but in a more practical and useful 30-80mph passing performance the Saab 93 Aero can overtake a BMW or Lexus surely and safely." A Saab 9-3 Aero stands no chance in any acceleration contest, starting at any speed, terminating at any speed compared to a 335i, IS350, 535i, 550i... Dude, I think you need to get out more. Best Regards, Shipo
