I am looking at a 2005 TSX w/nav. It is loaded; to list it all would take forever, but suffice it to say, it's a brilliant car. Under 19,000 miles, the VIN is clear, and the sticker is so reasonable ($24K) that there's probably not a lot of room for negotiation (although I will certainly try). Before I enter into negotiations for it, I'm concerned about costs of ownership. I'm wondering if someone could advise the following: 1. Is premium gasoline really necessary? 2. How's the city gas mileage on this car? Cursory research indicates it's going to be around 20mpg if I'm lucky. 3. How reliable is the nav system? 4. Anything else I should know that I might not have seen in prior research. I was originally in the market for a late model Altima to replace the 02 I just totaled, but the TSX is so loaded, the miles are so good, the reviews are so glowing, and the price pre-neg is already so reasonable that I'm taking a longer look at it than I normally would.

I have never used anything other than 92 octane. You can, but it has been my experience with other cars that my gas mileage went down when I used mid grade. I have 50k miles, with no problems. Some have had paint/leather issues, and there have also been problems with the center console electronics on the earlier TSXs. |

Replying to: ofthrees (May 24, 2007 9:45 am) I've seen some posts on this site of people getting really good mileage (over 30 in mixed driving), but don't expect that. I live in Chicago and usually see 23-24 mpg in mixed driving (I take the expressway to work, but it's often stop and go). On longer freeway trips, I'll see about 30-32 mpg traveling 75-77 mph. If you like to take it slow, this car can get up around 35 mpg if you drive 65 mph. The nav is good. Sometimes it struggles with directions in rural areas, but in urban areas it works well. A couple things to note: 1. There were some changes made to the car for '06 model year that may make it worth your time to check one out. (bluetooth, MP3 hookup, stronger engine). 2. It is crazy to me that you would have to pay $24k for an '05 with 19,000 miles. I bought my '06 new (and with more features than an '05) last November for $27.4k. 3. Although the TSX has great resale, that resale will drop when the new 2009 TSX is announced - probably later this year. If that's the case, prices for used models will likely drop - can you wait that long? Either way, if you're like me and plan to drive your car until it won't drive any more, you can't go wrong with a TSX |
