sienna vs kia by hersbird

I agree the Sienna is lighter then the Kia, I was addressing the Honda in comparison to the Kia. The Toyota just doesn't feel as nimble as the Kia, or the Honda for that matter. It's more like a Camry which by most people's judgement isn't bad, I just like the firmer suspension. I would be very happy with a Sienna with the new 3.5 motor but they were over $20,000 used with 20,000 miles on them at the time I bought the Kia.

I also agree the factory Kumho tires were not good in the snow even with good tread left on them. I went to dedicated studded snows which are really noisy but can't be beat for winter traction. I also just put a set of lower profile 18" wheels and tires on the Kia for spring and now it really feels (and looks) good.

Yep, best I could find a 2 year old used Sienna was about $20,900, and the new ones are about $25k with the same equipment.

May as well buy new. So that's what I did.

I have a 2006 Kia Sedona EX LOADED...everything but a DVD player. Bought it new.
It's a nice van and is dressed out better than most, regardless of make and cheaper than the others. We can list features all day but this has got to be the nosiest van on the road. I wasn't sure how noisy it was until I road in a Toyota Limited van...boy what a difference. Our van generates LOTS!! of road noise. I went back to the dealer and drove three new vans, each with a different set of tire...no difference from ours. Therefore I'm guessing that corners were cut in the insulation department. When we bought ours we were so taken with all the features and the price I didn't pick up how noisy it is. The Sedona runs well and all the nice features work with no trouble through27,000 miles. I'm not plugging the Toyota or the Honda...but..if I weren't upside down after deprecation of a new 2006 ( which is another story) I would trade in a heart beat!!!

Why include Entourage and Sedona when April 08 issue of Consumer Reports reports that Honda "Makes the best cars" and has the most reliable vehicles, the top 2 miniivans are 1st Odyssey & 2nd Sienna. The Sedona & Entourage are not reliable

1st Odyssey & 2nd Sienna

You got it backwards.

The top rated van is the FWD Sienna, with 93 points overall. It was 1st.

The Ody got 91 points, and came in 2nd.

In reliability the Sienna was also rated higher.

It's definitely Toyota #1, Honda #2, FWIW.

Because, believe it or not, some people don't use CR as the end-all of choosing a vehicle!

VWs aren't known for being reliable either, yet people pay premiums for them over Hondas and Toyotas. Its ok to pick outside the reliability box.

Amen.....I use CR to pick appliances....of course, some people view cars as appliances...that's why the Taurus was so popular. I mean, come on, a Taurus? What car guy or gal would pick a Taurus? I do admit I've rented a couple of Taurus' ( Tauri?). But I don't ignore CR. They do do great work. It's just that a car means more to me than an appliance. And I'm sure to most of you who read these forums and use Edmunds.

I had a 1992 Taurus long-stroke enging. In the 276,000 milometers I had it it never had an engine or transmission problem. The big problems were the brakes, wheel fender rust, wiper motors and tie rods.

Some fun cars also happen to be reliable.

You don't have to give up fun.

My Miata is 15 years old now and running like a top.

I want to upgrade to a 2006, but really this one is fine, I have no reason to. I wish it would break down!

I had a 1989 Taurus as my first vehicle (bought it at age 5 with 80K miles on it). I am still searching for a vehicle as comfortable with plenty of hip room in the front seat (tired of these vehicles with center consoles - give me a split front bench anyday). I got it to survive until 10 yrs/155K without major repairs. Of course had to do without AC for the last 4 years (couldnt afford to/didnt want to get it fixed as at the time conversion kits were non-existent and would cost thousands of dollars to convert to R134) - but it helped me learn all of the local backroads as stopping at a light in 100 degree heat in a black car was brutal. In the end the transmission was dead, actually for the last year of its life I couldnt use overdrive, had to just use the "D" setting. But from a comfort/value perspective there was nothing like it.
