I own a 2000 Grand Prix GT, 3.6l V6.   My Service Engine Soon light came on over the weekend. I took it to autozone and hooked up the computer. I got the following error code:   P0449 "EVAP Emission Control System Vent Vlv/Sol Manfunction"   Can anyone help? The car operates normally but gets about 1/4 normal gas mileage. I just need to know if this is a do-it-yourselfer or if I need to take it into the shop.   HELP! Replying to: cpujoe (May 22, 2007 9:17 am) my KIA is getting the same message and I can only get 130 miles per tank ! Its a 14 gallon tank so thats 9 miles per gallon !!! Replying to: troynall (Aug 15, 2007 2:57 pm) It turned out to be a wiring issue between the solenoid and the computer. They had to rip up the car and found out that a bundle of wires were rubbing against the engine. A bunch of other wires were badly worn and exposed and causing some shorts. The fuel efficiency issue is still bad, but getting better.

Replying to: nessxp (Oct 07, 2007 9:02 pm) Like I said, it was a wiring issue between the solenoid and the computer. There is a bundle of wires coming from the computer that was scraping against the engine mount that had eaten through a few wires. That wire was gone and the wire that controls the fan was next... Replacing the solenoid is a pretty cheap solution...
