What's With the Negativity? by displacedtexan

Edmunds just can't help writing what in essence is a favorable review without also including some negative barbs.

They point out that "changes to the 2008 STS reflect Cadillac's decision to use this car as a showcase of new technology." Good: putting in the latest technology is exactly what a luxury car maker should do, so it's important to spend some time talking about it as this review did. But the editors can't help but use phrases such as "Ordering an STS with the exact combination of attributes and technologies you'd prefer might be like playing bingo with the check-off boxes on the order sheet." And "Blind me with science. Every 2008 STS can be had with Cadillac's new and annoying Lane Departure Warning system."

The test drive concludes that the car "is more handsome, more distinctive and certainly more powerful than the model it updates. All this makes the STS a better car." Yet they have to go on and read the tea leaves, ending with "This leaves the 2008 Cadillac STS in its familiar role as the overlooked middle child."

I would have enjoyed the review much more if the editorializing had been left out. It sounded too much like something from Car and Driver.

I disliked the snideness which attended this reviewer's evaluation of the STS - not a tone I've noted in any Edmund's review of a comparable Mercedes, BMW, or Toyota Lexus.

This reads like a descripiton of the brochure. Where is the commentary on passing power? Ride quality? Road noise? Cornreing and handling? Anything?
