Then again, I weigh around 180 and she weights around 140. I also notice things like that more. One other thing that might have been a factor, although I don't think it was, is that I'd ridden my bicycle 80+ miles the day before, so my butt was perhaps a little more sensitive. I do remember at the time thinking about discomfort though. |

I understand the Altima Hybrid may be available next year in Pennsylvania and my dealer (in WV) thought that "border" states were eligible to purchase them. I probably would have went for the Altima because I would have preferred a tad firmer ride then the TCH. The Altima is sportier, although I do like the new TCH exterior. As for the CRV, I tried to purchase one for my daughter but could not deal and bought the RAV4. I didn't regret it. As for the new CRV, I have not sat insode one but the view from the road, I like what I see as far as styling. That's pretty subjective though. Our gas went up to $3.29 this weekend. Uggh. I still own an SUV and probably always will. THis weekend I had to take it on a trip (250 round trip) which I hate to do but I was able to haul all my tools and then bring back 4 large boxes for my brother. PLus this time I had mom borrow a trailer so I didn't have to drag mine down (I get 11mpg with the trailer). Unfortunately if you have the same needs in a vehicle as I do but can only afford one vehicle I'd still be an SUV owner. An SUV and a trailer does all I needed to do with a truck, plus 99% of the time it's functionally more of a car, which a truck is not. Small SUV's will fit most peoples needs and still get decent mpg. I'm still waiting to see the 08HH, but wish it looked a little more "manly" My neighbor has a Prius, I'd love to drive it to see just how good of FE I could get. I've never driven one but would consider it. Just wish it looked more like a Yaris.

I do think the Altima has more of the features I like (particularly the backup camera that is part of their Technology Package) and drives a little sportier. However, I do not think the Altima Hybrid gets quite the gas mileage of the Camry Hybrid (even discounting the notorious Car and Driver article) and, despite recent complaints about 4-cylinder, non-hybrid Camrys, I still trust Toyota's reliability more than Nissan's. As a quick note, I am amazed at how similar most of us are in terms of the "other" cars we drive (mostly "smallish" SUVs) and the types of cars we gave up or traded in for our camry Hybrids (sportier). Maybe Toyota rally hit a particular demographic with their TCH. Or Edmunds did with their TCH forums.

Replying to: newcars (May 20, 2007 4:25 am) They are both great cars. I would prefer to drive a hybrid, but we need something to make the Home Depot runs in. Here is my summary: The TCH gets 37-40 MPG. Very comfortable, much like a "luxury car." Biggest drawback is the tunk size. Check it closely if you are going to make long trip and carry a lot of stuff. The Rav 4 gets 21-23 MPG in commuter driving. It is very comfortable, has a lot of cargo space and is a bit more fun to drive. Don't jump on the 6Cyl untilyou drive the 4Cyl. I don't feel any need to pay the extra for the 6. I bought the RAV4 in Ohio and drove it home to Texas. I have no complaints at all. Interestingly, the Camry is fun to. However, we tend to play the "get the best mileage" game and rarely take it out just for fun. I use my phone a lot in the car. I strongly recommend the JBL with cellphone Bluetooth. It is STD on the Camry and Optional on the RAV4. Hope this helps.

Since you keep your cars for quite a while, you might want to check out the threads on extended warranties. Midwest Superstore and Toyota of Greenfield will save you big bux on the genuine Toyota extended over most dealers. Lots of detailed info on the TCH at www.greenhybrid.com and on the RAV4 at www.rav4world.com. ((mods- not sure if you allow links to be posted. Feel free to delete this part of post if it is not OK.)) Enjoy! |
