Hi , Last night I drove my wifes torrent and I notice a sound that sound like and faint turbo prop . Rolled down the rear window and the noise hurt my ears.To me it sounds like a wheel bearing going. Any thoughts ??
Thanks

I have the same problem.
I just return from a two week vacation to Japan, and I was surprised to find water under the carpet on the right rear passenger area
. I am going to remove the back seat and find out where is coming from. I lift the side of the carpet and placed a very absorbent cloth (had to do that two times a day, going on my second week doing that!). I noticed a hose that runs across the floor in that area; I think that is the hose that brings water to the rear seat area. I will let you know........
#410 of 417 I like my 2006 Torrent- when it is not in the shop

I have a 2006 AWD Pontiac Torrent and have had it in the repair shop repeatedly- many times for the same issue. I just broke the 36,000 mile mark and after getting no help from the dealership or GM I reluctantly purchased an extended warranty with the assumption that I will have further problems. Some issues I have had are:
1) Both front wheel bearings were replaced (20,000 miles)
2) Air hoses that keep detaching causing the check engine light to go on (had it in the shop more than 5 times for this issue- finally the service people found a GM bulletin on the problem)
3) A bolt came loose from the oil pan during an out of town trip over Christmas and got sucked up into the flywheel pretty much destroying thousands of dollars in parts
4) Starting issues- vehicle turns over but the engine doesn't kick in right away- after a couple tries it will typically start but it is hard to replicate for the service department
Before my warranty expired I tried to address the issues and non-resolvance with the dealership where purchased (Walser in Bloomington, MN). The salesman was inattentive, the representative they gave me was unhelpful and just tried to sell me an extended warranty and they even tried to sell me a newer model. The service rep told me that GM gives you a 36,000 mile warranty so that all the kinks can get worked out- don't you think they would work out the kinks before they manufacture and sell a vehicle?
After contacting Pontiac they were even worse than the dealership. I weighed the costs and decided it would cost less to buy an extended warranty and deal with the issues for three more years than to trade in a vehicle with a long service report and get the disappointingly low trade in price the dealers are offering.
#412 of 417 The future of the Torrent

As a satisfied owner of a 2006 Torrent with 46000 trouble free miles i have been thinking about the future of the GM lineup. Given the current state of the auto industry and the economy and GM, things are going to have to change.
we all know chevy, gmc, buick and saturn have the lambda series midsize crossover suvs. chevy, saturn, pontiac have the small crossovers,,the equinox, torrent and vue. i have read about the 2010 equinox and 2010 gmc terrain, but nothing about the 2010 torrent and the vue recently recieved a redesign. since there is much speculation about the future of pontiac, will pontiac cede the torrent to buick? this would give gmc, chevy buick and saturn each a midsize and compact crossover. the compact crossover segment seems to be a popular market segment. what do you think will happen?

I have a 2006 Pontiac Torrent FWD and have had some of the same problems that seem to keep showing up in the forums.
1. At 17000 miles replaced both wheel bearings.
2. At 10000 replaced ignitions switch.
3. Service warning light kept coming on and the dealer couldn't find anything wrong so their guess was that the gas cap was not tight. I just happened to be under the hood inspecting the filter and found a hose had came loose from the filter box, attached the hose and the service light went away. Had to us Ductape to keep the hose on.
4. Tires wore out at 18000 miles. Tires were rotated and balanced per the owners manual but because the tires wore even, GM said that it is not covered under the warranty.
5. The car now has 52000 miles and it is in the shop to have the front Rt wheel bearing replaced and the rotors replaced.

I noticed my car hums when its in driving mode. When I roll down the window, I do not notice any loud noise when driving. How do you tell if its the bearings?

Hello dakdog14,
I do realize that is has been nearly 3 years since your post and you may have changed your email address but I must just say to you in regards to the right front wheel bearing being replaced: I do hope that you did not pay for this repair out of pocket. If you did and/or if the warranty was up at the time - find your receipt and get into the dealership. I had to pressure the dealership to cover me under the warranty when it had expired for me however the same bearing was replaced within a year of purchasing the vehicle (brand new off the lot 2006 - with a warranty) so....for the SAME bearing to go again when I had not even put another 20,000 kms on it - to me that is a problem with the bearings they are using. The service manager was fantastic for me. He admitted the parts they use are cheap. Unfortunately that is what they are. Parts made in countries such as Mexico or China. I had the repair covered at no cost to me. I found this forum when my car would not start tonight. The vechile is now 5 years old. Yes, I will be calling the dealership again! Thank you for your information. Best of luck.

I like a few others have had problems with my air bag sensor going bad, just like the recall states. I called my local dealer and he states I have the same problem as the recall but my Vin number doesn't match the Vins covered in the recall. I'm very disappointed in how pontiac handled this. There went several hundred dollars
