Honda Civic Hybrid '06: problem with car, after driving in a flooded street by jdiggers
May 08, 2007 (1:11 pm)
Hi everyone, I have a problem with my HCH 2006 and I am going to bring it into the shop in a little bit, but was wondering if anyone had any advice. My problem is as follows:

I live in Baton Rouge Louisiana and there was a lot of rain one day, and I had to drive through a street that was partly flooded, my HCH stalled, and since then I have had the engine warning light on, as well the car is making a funny noise, like the timing belt is off or something. I'm a complete idiot when it comes to cars, but would anyone have any idea of what is going on before I bring it into the dealership? Thanks for reading.

You may have goten some debris on the engine belts and they will make noises if they get too wet. It really could be just about anything, but spraying "belt dressing" on the belts (not timing, the other belts) will usually silence them. If that's what it is, and it's only a wild guess at this point.

I highly doubt you got water in the engine, but you may have gotten something wet electrically that is causing the warning light to come on. It may just need to be reset now that things have dried out.

The dealer should read the code and then see if whatever caused it is still "bad".

Often the codes are a result of something temporary (like something getting wet), but once it dries, the light stays on just to let you know that something did at one point in time get wet and it should be checked out just to be sure.

good luck.
