Article comments for Comparison Test: 2007 BMW X3 vs. 2008 Land Rover LR2 - We've brought together two modern approaches to combining the comfortable wagon with the multifunctional truck: a 2007 BMW X3 3.0si and 2008 Land Rover LR2 SE. We've already had a look at the features of each, so this is a comparison of performance, not appearance. (more)

So this Land Rover also broke down. It seems that I have yet to read a test of a Land Rover product that has not had a mechanical or electrical failure. And these are cars prepped specially for journalists so it would seem that the buying public would have even worse experiences.
No wonder they are ranked as the least reliable cars in the US. Take it off road? If it breaks down on road? I think not.
p.s. the photo caption comparing it's looks to a Ford Escape are dead on.

What about the Acura RDX? The RDX is much more of a X3 competitor then the LR3 is. It is much faster and sportier. Cheaper also. Why wouldn't they use the RDX, its pretty clear to me that it would be a good comparo.

I remember when Karl did a quick review of the RDX on his Straightline blog. He mentioned a comparison test in the future of the RDX and X3! I really want to see a comparo of the two cars!

Well I've had my LR2 for 4 days now and I have not broke down and I have not found truffles yet. My new LR2 replaced my 2006 X3 3.0. I truly enjoyed my X3 and never had any problems during my ownership. The X3 handles just like a BWM should. I'll miss the dead on handling that you always felt behind the wheel, but I must say the ride in the LR2 is alot more comfortable on the road with its softer suspension. The navigation system on the LR2 is leaps and bounds better then the X3 I had. Gotta love the color touch screen and the sound system kicks butt. My ipod which I couldn't connect to the X3 because of the navigation system, easily plugs into my LR2. No more having to open the door handle twice to get out of my X3, whereas my LR2 opens on your first time. Never did like that feature on the X3. I'm sure as I get driving my LR2 I'll find more pros and cons, but right now I'm a happy new LR2 owner.

Wagon Comparison by slegacy93

I'm glad someone other than me finally admitted that SUVs are nothing more than wagons. I've been trying to convince my wife that her CR-V is nothing more than a taller, boxier, more expensive station wagon, but she doesn't want to hear it - just like 99.9% of the population.

Headroom specs are baloney by bgsntth

This is more of a pet-peeve with Edmunds and every other automotive group that prints misleading specifications.

Edmunds lists the LR2 as having 40.2" of headroom. When I sit in an LR2, my head is firmly into the headliner surrounding the sunroof. When I sit in my LR3 with 40.4" of headroom, I can stack both hands on top of my head under the headliner. My Cayman which is listed at 37.8" has about a finger of clearance under the headliner.

I suspect that the measurements for the LR2, and the RRS for that matter, are for the Euro-only sunroofless versions; which of course cannot be had in the US. Thus the specifications are baloney.

By the way, I have about a finger of clearance in the X3-though this was a 2005 model.
