Article comments for Comparison Test: 2007 BMW X3 vs. 2008 Land Rover LR2 - We've brought together two modern approaches to combining the comfortable wagon with the multifunctional truck: a 2007 BMW X3 3.0si and 2008 Land Rover LR2 SE. We've already had a look at the features of each, so this is a comparison of performance, not appearance. (more)
| How much gas does the LR2 actually used? | |
| I know everyone's driving habits are different, but I currently get 20.4, (last 10 fillups combined). By comparison my Tahoe with same driving habits got 15.5. The milelage does get better after a break in period. | |

After hours...days, really...of research test drives, etc, I'm still torn between these two vehicles. The agressive leasing of BMW now has the monthly lease payments lower than the LR2...which eliminates one of the factors for consideration. I think the design is hands down better inside and out on the LR2, as is the Nav and premium stereo. I also like the feel of the buttons and dials on the car...it feels right. However, although I haven't experienced any of the transmission hesitation reported widely, the X3 just is a much better car on the road. If it looked a bit more agressive and less like a car my girlfriend would take to the mall- I'd be sold. All the performance quality in the world doesn't matter if you're feeling like a chick behind the wheel... Thoughts?

However, I do agree that the interior feels much better. The deal breaker may be that unless I want a silver/gray X3, I may have to pass on Xenon headlamps (somehthing I've had for several years).

Once you move the center of gravity up and the seating position higher then a hard ride and firm suspension feel weird at least to me. Drive a Cayenne sometime and you will see what I am talking about. Every time you hit a bump your feel like a bobble head because your body is so far away from the center of movement. Passing prowess is not about 0-60 it is about 50-70 or 40-60 mph acceleration. I would be very interested to see the difference between the X3 and the LR2 for those tests.

True Land Rover is not in the most reliable car list, but this one was built with that tag in mind from the ground up (freelander fiasco) so hopefully the errors were corrected and if not the 4 yr full warranty/maintenance should be enough.. |
