IT IS ALSO POSIBALE THAT THE VALVE BODY IS CRACKED IT SETS ABOUT THE 1.5 INCHES ABOVE THE TRANS PAN AND IF A LOT OF PRESSURE WAS PUT ON THE PAN THIS A POSIBILTY . IF YOU HAVE ANY WORK DONE ASK TO SEE THE OLD PARTS THEY DONT LIE . LOOK FOR FRESH MARKS IN THE PAN SCRATCHES IF THEY WERE OLD THEY WOULD BE RUSTY. ONE LAST NOTE DURING REPAIR IF ENGINE WAS TAKEN OUT THE (SHURE IT WAS) CONVERTER SOME TIMES COMES OUT AND THERE IS A WAY OF GETTING IT IN ALL THE WAY ( 3 NOTCHES GOES IN ABOUT A 1/4 INCH EACH NOTCH) LETS SAY IT ONLY GOES IN 2 NOTCHES WHEN THE ENGINE IS IN STALLED IT COULD CRACK THE PUMP HOUSING CAUSING A INTERNAL FLUID PSI DROP. Can any one tell me what the hold switch does to the auto transmission.. I no what the power does . to me it seems to take off in second gear.

I have a 1999 forester with 180000 miles. Since 100000 miles, the transmission has had a delay when first putting it in drive. Now the delay is longer and sometimes may take 5 to 10 seconds and still will not engage until the rpms hit 2500. Since this is my first Subaru, I thought it might just be a problem due to the mileage. But recently I met another person who is having the same problem with the same year of forester with less miles. Any suggestions? Recently, the turbocharger on my Forester scorched a bearing due to an oil seal that let loose. The dealer wanted $2380 for a stock turbocharger plus installation of $400. The car has 70000 miles and is out of warranty. Since I am a pretty good mechanic, I have decided now is the time to upgrade to a ball bearing turbocharger for better efficency and more HP. There are so many after market companies that I don't know which turbo charger to buy. I would like to keep the price under $1500 but am willing to spend more if someone convinces me that it is money well spent. Any suggestions? Replies to this message: ateixeira (Nov 12, 2007 9:28 am)
