I needed to replace the stereo in my '05 and was told by the dealership that GM has to supply the code. Of course, they could lie..

Their statement confuses me too. Normally, on older radio, you enter the Theft-lock code using the buttons on radio. You have to remember the code, so that next time if the car battery ever get disconnected, the radio would show "Lock". To get the radio function back, you then have to enter the code that you set earlier. Sometime if you forget, you have to go to the dealer, they will charge you $50-$100 to unlock it for you.
On newer radios (I do not know if this applies to Trailblazer's ), you do not have to set the code. The radio gets the vehicle VIN number and stores it in the radio computer. If this radio is taken out, it will not work anywhere. Since you are replacing your old radio, why bother anyway. The new radio, when installed in the vehicle, will get the code automatically from the vehicle. You do not have to do anything.
The dealership should have the tool to erase code set in any type of radio
In either case, I think they are trying to make extra money on you.

Each time I start my trailblazer, and turn on the stereo, the volume blares at me. It has not done this before.. not sure why it has started this.
Has anyone had this issue? and/or solved it?
I'd appreciate a reply if you have information.
