I went to an auction recently where there were several Civic GX's for sale ('00 and '01). I considered buying, but had some concerns. Can one expect as many miles form these cars as from a gasoline powered Civic? I've learned that the range for these cars is about 180 miles. I've got a commute of about 90 miles per day. Is having an additional tank an option? The home filling dI'd also be interested in hearing which model ('00 vs. '01) is preferred.

I have an '07 civic. I get about 180 a tank, but I fill at a station. I could get another 10 miles pretty easy. If you get a home fill unit, you can expect about 10% increase in fill capacity (it is rather complicated, but a fast fill involves increasing the temp of the gas, which decreases the amount of Natural Gas in a 3600 PSI tank. By filling slower at home, you are able to fill cooler, which allows more Gas in the 3600 psi). You can get an additional tank. There is a dealer online here who sells cars and will add a 3 gge tank for about $500 if you buy the car from him. As for how long it will last, your guess is as good as anyones. I hear that the cleaner fuel will result in longer engine life... as long as you take care of it (oil change, so on). I love my civic, I only wish I had gotten 2 older used ones over 1 new one. That way my wife wouldn't fight me over who gets the new car.

Thanks for the info. It did not come through in my first post, but I explained that the home filling unit is not an option because I live in a rural area where natural gas is not supplied. I think I saw a post by the guy that installs tanks, but I wouldn't be buying a car from him and I think he's on the other side of the country - CA with me in NY.

Don't discount Murphy because of the distance. I haven't done business with him, but he seems to know his stuff and his website lists shipping to NY at $1000.

I bought my car, a CNG Crown Vic, in Kentucky and had it shipped to me in California. I got a great deal, my car had 777 miles and cost me $18,000 (including shipping) – sticker price was $34,000.

I can also tell you that it is highly unlikely you will find a better deal on an extra tank fitted.

Just my two cents.

Thanx for the endorsment. If you have any questions before you get into CNG feel free to call me. You don't even have to buy from me. I want to make sure you have right information when forming a dicision. A lot of misconceptions out there around CNG.

No problem on the endorsement - only said it because it seems to be so.

Might get told off - wrong topic etc., but... I think you posted that you had a bunch of FMQs - can you say how much you are letting them go for?

BTW - can I have your tri fuel Excursion when you are done with it?

Alan.
