Hi all: We bought our Aztek 2001 new and are now having the EXCAT same problem with our Trac Ctl you all report. Loss of brake pedal when braking into a turn, Trac ON/OFF lights coming on, pulsing pdeal, grinding noise. We've had the dealer replace (at their suggestion) both front wheel hub assemblies/wheel sensors and now they want to do the driver's side rear one for $700+. I told them to just put it back together and forget it. I was also thinking of pulling the fuse on the ABS system but have thought twice based on an earlier post in this string. This is clearly not an isolated problem. Do we go to GM with a petition or something to get the problem addressed?

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I assume (by the $700 quote) you have a FWD Tek. I am wondering, do you have the grinding noise when turning without braking? If so, the wheel bearing/hub assembly may be bad (bearing itself) and I think not replacing it may very well cause more problems down the road. Do you know if the dealer scanned for codes that suggested replacing the front ones?
One other thing I just found in looking around is one case where there was bad contact in big harness to main ABS module under hood. In this case just a change of a wire corrected problem (one more thing to add to laundry list of possibilites listed here and in Vous forum, if not other places)

Thx for the quick response. No grinding when driving, just on braking into a turn or a stop light/sign intermittently.
Dealer did scan the codes (so they said).
Thx for the heads-up on the big harness.

After much research, here and on other forums, I took the car back to the dealership and told them to check all the wiring harnesses going from the front wheel hubs to the engine computers. TOLD THEM DONT BOTHER RUNNING A SCAN - just check the harnesses carefully. Got a call a short time later... the casing on one of the harnesses had dried up and cracked, and at least one wire had corroded enough to split. We then argued about whether or not they advised me to replace a wheel hub and sensor for no reason. End result - they covered the labour cost for replacing the harness. It's been 3 days, and so far the problem has not recurred. Fingers crossed. LESSON HERE - DON'T TAKE THEIR WORD FOR IT THAT HUBS ARE FAULTY... HAVE THEM CHECK THE WIRING HARNESSES, AND TEST THE BCM. IF THEY REFUSE, OR TELL YOU YOU'RE NUTS, GO TO ANOTHER SHOP. Good luck!

Good to hear wormburner, as our vehicles age a bit, they have to be ready to go beyond what the magic scan tool says sometimes.

wormburner...
I completely agree with you and have been trying to get a class action suit going myself. I would be happy to sign a petition and would love it if more people would ban together and get a suit going against GM...these are not isolated problems and GM is well aware that they have dupped all of us...why do think they only made the Aztek for a couple of years???
Let me know if you decide to pursue this in any way.

We have a 2002 rendezvous and have encountered several problems. We have replaced wheel bearings three times, BCM twice, intake gasket, had to replace the entire gas tank and now are having the same traction control/anti-lock brake system problems. The service traction contral light came on so believing that it was a brake problem, replaced and blead brakes. This car has been a piece of junk!I'm a die hard gm fan and right now FORDS looking good.

ABS light keeps coming on

The weather here in beautiful Edmonton,AB,Canada has been crazy for the past week...the coldest it got was -47celcius, plus snow! On the first day my car was fine, then the next day as I was pulling out of my parking spot my ABS light came on and stayed on...fine I shut my car off and waited for a bit and then all was fine. Well progressing up to today my ABS light keeps coming on, however I have noticied that for the most part my ABS light does not come on when I am driving on major roads...however in the residential areas (really bumpy with lots of ice) and when i am making shap fast turns to get into my parking spot it comes on again..... this is leading me to think that it is either a loose of faulty wire...this happened one time in December but I just reset it and all was fine, no more warning lights until this week.....has anyone had any similar experiences???

I haven't had any problems with ours yet, but what you describe is exactly what I would expect a loose/broken wire/corroded connection to do.

i know the abs engages and disengages the awd. is it possible to engage the awd when the abs is out of order which is usually always. possibly even fulltime awd would be better than none at all
