2000 chevy cavalier 2.2 lt engine. Grrr the coolant lite is on but the temp remains fine. I have replaced the thermostat, radiator, water pump... there is a big leak but idk from where. the reservoir where you fill the coolant is on the left along with the water Pump and the thermostat is middle left. the leak however is on the rite and i think but i am not sure towards the middle back. i think it may be from a leaky hose or is there another reservoir on the other side idk about??? any suggestions??? thanx for the help

it could be a the transmission coolent lines, the come off the tranny and go into the bottom of the rad and top of the ride...under the car black lines, looking from front they are on the right side

My 2000 Cavalier has 187,000 miles on it (2 Dr., 2.2 liter engine) -- I drove about 45 mi. today, then did some running around to stores. At the last store, I come out (the temps had dropped a good 10-15 degrees in an hour!!) and all of a sudden the engine would not turn over. The AAA guy came and first put the jumpers on in case it was the battery, but it wasn't that. So then he tapped on the fuel tank as I cranked it, and it started!! He said it is the fuel pump. YIKES!!! I don't have much money right now, not for what I'm thinking will cost about $500.
 
1. I was reading on this forum about a fuel pump relay near the fuses, could it possibly be that, if so, how would I know before bringing it to a mechanic so that I don't get ripped off?
 
2. how hard is it to get to the fuel pump, will it be labor intensive at the shop???

The Fuel pump is labor intensive, 1.5 -2 hours maint.
 
I actually called around for a day and Pep Boys ended up being the best deal by price matching a local garage - their warranty was for 3 months on parts and 6 months on workmanship.
 
If it is the Relays you will be able to tell EASILY via a technician. Relays are either OPEN OR CLOSED, period. You can also hear them "click" sometimes. Anyone who has and knows how to use a multimeter and handle a wiring diagram should be able to diagnose this in 30 minutes or less.
 
It ended up costing me $280 for Removing and replacing the Fuel Pump - I even got a discount for being a veteran. Good luck.

I recently bought a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier from a private party. The ABS, Trac off and Service light are all on. (The service light not check engine light. My car has both lights.) The car runs amazing. No problems what so ever. I have changed the ABS sensors and the lights will still not turn off. I have tried to disconnect the battery and still nothing. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get these lights to go out without having to take it in to the dealership or use a computer. I want to try and reset the ABS computer to see if the sensors was the problem.

I have an automatic 2002 Cavalier sedan with just 100,000 kms (61,000 miles) When I am driving down the road everything seems great, then out of the blue I get a pretty drastic vibration throughout the car; can't pinpoint where, just seems everywhere. Some serious shaking going on. So I slow right down almost to a stop and then go on my way again, and everything is back to completely normal. This has happened twice in one day.
 
My wife came back from driving and said it had suddenly occurred at around 85km/h,(and disappeared just as quickly; she was unable to duplicate it) so I went out in an attempt to duplicate it. Of course everything was running smooth as silk at all speeds. I increased to almost 120 km/h, and while bringing the speed back down to about 100km/h it very suddenly started vibrating badly. As I said, once I slowed down, then sped up again, everything was completely back to normal.
 
I am really flustered here. I don't have a clue what causes this strange behavior. I don't know if this is even worth mentioning, but the check engine light stays on; has been on since long before we bought the car. This may well not be connected at all to the vibration issue, and I would hate to throw anyone off with their diagnosis if there is indeed no connection. But it might be worth noting?
 
Has anyone on this fine forum ever heard of this happening, or experienced the same thing? Any and all help with this issue would be very much appreciated!(I live on a remote island, so am at present unable to get to a mechanic)

Well you'd better get to a mechanic or get under that car, because whatever it is, it's obviously dangerous. You can tighten all the wheels, look for a torn boot in the front axle CV joints, look for a huge bulge in a tire, or face the car and see if the tires are both pointing straight ahead, or if they have some weird angle to them side to side or top to bottom.
