Hi jwachman
I'm sorry this happened to you, especially that it just happened to me as well!!!
My wife's 2011 Acadia, with just 10,000 miles just blew the engine today!
Timing chain broke when she was on the highway doing 65! She lost breaking and steering and barely got to the side of the road without being hit. She had our kids in the car with her! Needless to say, I am extremely upset that this 33K+ brand new car just blown its engine, and put my family in peril and danger! Got it towed to the dealership, they told me it would take up to 2 weeks to fix it. But I don't want it fixed, I want this pile of garbage off my hands. I can't believe the terrible quality that GMC is putting out these days, my 2007 huyndai had zero problems, and I though I was buying a good quality vehicle, when I got the Acadia. Nope, bad mistake. I hope that they at least put a new engine in this junker. If not, I would expect GM to give me my money back and take this piece of junk back to the dumpster, where it belongs!
Ok enough venting, sorry for the rant, I am so done with GM. I have a 2007 Silverado, with no problems, but that was before the GM union thugs got bailed out by Obama and started making crap for cars. No MORE GM for me or any of my friends or family, I will tell everyone about this and send them to this forum to see how crappy the Acadia really is.
I was going to get a 2012 Silverado, but after reading all the problems people are having with the 2011 Silverado, I would never buy another one. GM quality went to pot after they got bailed out, no insentive to compete any more.
I'm going to Toyota or Huyndai, no more GM!

I sympathize with you and thank God your family is O.K. The problems with GM vehicles have little to do with union labor and a lot to do with bad engineering. For example, your 3.6 liter engine has 3 timing chains! Why the complexity? It makes no sense. Most vehicles have one. Each timing chain requires tensioners to prevent slack in the chain. If the tensioner fails, then the chain skips and kaboom, good bye engine. GM simply does not possess the engineers that can design reliable, durable overhead cam engines. Their best engines were the old tech overhead valve engines (3.1, 3.5, 3.8, etc.). Until GM can prove it can build a high quality overhead cam V6, I would stay clear away from their new vehicle offerings. My two cents worth.

I have not spoke to Customer Assistance. Our dealership (Piehler) was right on it and had the transmission fixed within 2 days. It still does not "feel" like it used to switching gears (it's a little rough at times) and now the steering has a creaking sound. Other than that it now goes in reverse and past 30 mph. I guess since the transmission was not totally replaced I will always have a problem. Too bad because as a family we love the car.

If you continue to experience concerns I recommend speaking with the dealer as soon as it starts. Please also email me and let me know if you continue to experience concerns.

#1353 of 2098 Transmission failure 55K miles by gomjua

Oct 28, 2011 (11:19 am)

I have a 2007 Acadia with 55K miles. The transmission just blew up while I was about to get on the freeway yesterday. GMC says they are going to replace it, but not until next week. So far they haven't given me a rental car, which I was originally told was included in the extended warranty. I am frustrated with how many major things have gone wrong with this car. Two years ago with only 20k+ miles on it the steering went out, last year it started leaking water inside the vehicle. I'm concerned about what's going to happen next? The 5 year warranty will expire next year, but it has very low miles. I guess this is the problem with buying a new model car when they are first released, but you would think GMC would have this figured out. Not very excited about the price of tires and general maintenance on this vehicle either....

Christina,
Thank you for checking on me.
The car is at the dealer, and they told me that they will replace the engine with a new one. I've been told it will be 3-4 weeks before we get it back.
At least they were nice and put my wife into a nice rental GMC Yukon
My wife also told me that the steering started to make noise, I'm afraid that this could be another issue.
Thanks

#1357 of 2098 Knocking while accelerating by kcajax79

I have had my Acadia from the start and I have had a knocking noise that happens when i accelerate right when I start the car around the 5-15 mph mark. It sounds like there might be a loose ring but the dealership has never been able to replicate the noise (go figure) Has any one else experienced this???? Thanks
