The worse thing is that it is affecting the U.S. taxpayer! Why should the U.S. taxpayer have to fund an agreement between GM and its workers, when they made an agreement they can't afford to give (the company); or afford to accept (taking too much for GM to be viable)? Right on. he needs to keep telling me how "well-trained" and "skilled" and "intelligent" these UAW workers are, because from what I see I can assure you I will forget unless he keeps reminding me... I say: if the UAW workers are "well trained", "skilled" and "intelligent", then I am "genius" "superman" and "god" I'm looking forward to another strike by march 31st. |

You ought to know by now that I ALWAYS speak in gentle, non-descript, fuzzy-wuzzy terms, so that my meaning is implied, but NEVER out front and direct... That is why I am just a fuzzy little lawyer in my own little corner, trying my best to communicate my feelings, and always falling short in my ability to do so... Even my emoticons are shy, reserved, and withdrawn, just like me...

Now they are laying off full times employee's. So whats next? Toyota say we must lower you're wage to be able to pay share holders? for the good of the company. If this is done and the economy gets even wores are they go to lower it even further? SO HOW LONG CAN YOU GO? If the company you work for ask you to take a pay cut and then few month's later they lay you off how while you feel? |

Replying to: m4d_cow (Jan 12, 2009 10:32 am) When asked about the upcoming 'Volt" at the Detroit Auto Show, Rick Wagoner constantly emphasized that they (GM) need to bring the cost down in order to make this a viable car. Is that all he can think about? bringing costs down? Isn't that thinking what got him in this mess in the first place? I'd rather hire an illiterate bean counter for a piddly amount if this is what he believes that a CEO should be focusing on when developing a new car. Not that it is not important, but certainly he should not make it a public message. |

Replying to: yankabilly (Jan 14, 2009 12:45 pm) That is exactly what happened to us in about 1985. The company asked us to open the contract for a wage reduction. It was that or they would have to lay off half the crew. We opened it up and took a $525 per week cut in pay. Five months later they laid off the bottom 4 employees. Cutting the crew in half. There were many Union contracts that got cut worse than ours. The IBEW took a $5 per hour cut in pay. They never did catch up to us. Our cut was hours on our shift. So when things picked up we were back on 10-12 hour days and making good money again. If there is no money something has to give. |
