if GM wants people to move from the Accord/Camry, they should start selling Cadillac quality at Malibu prices. That is a compelling reason to switch over. No customer is going to switch over to a barely comparable product. |

I have had a change of heart, man. I now believe that at least GM should get bailout money and they should get it now. lemko and I discussed this at length earlier today. I recalled my Grandpa's beautiful '68 Buick Skylark and my Mom's huge '68 Buick LeSabre and how they were such great vehicles. I have experienced a total about face. rockylee, I am swaying away from wanting a Chevy Volt, but haven't totally crossed it off my future new car list for 2010. An Italian company named Pininfarina has teamed with a French company named Bollore and is putting out a small 4-person, 4-door subcompact called the B0. It will have solar panels on it's roof and in it's front grille that will re-charge it's batteries. It will directly compete with the 2010 Chevy Volt and it will come to U.S. shores in 2010. Now, my '08 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS only has 29,939 miles on it right now. But by then, or maybe early 2011, I am strongly considering buying one of these Pininfarina-Bollore B0's. They won't give me pricing information yet, they will only produce 10,000 cars in 2010 and then as battery production ramps us they'll make 12,000 in 2011. 15,000 in 2012, etc. An earlier all-electric of Pininfarina-Bollore's called the LeBlue car was retailing for only $23,000. I translated from their brochure that said that the car will cost 15000Euros right now and it comes out to be $23,000USD right now. What happens currency-wise might change the B0's price by late 2010, but hey, at $23,000-the Barack rebate of $7,500...well, you all do the math. $15,500 friends! I am going to be all over this new all-electric together with the 2010 Mitsubishi i-MIEV(about $24,000 before the Obama-bate) and yes, Chevrolet's 2010 Volt for...umm...$33,000? rock...the Volt design looks pretty impressive, though. I have taken a slow look at it and it looks sound as a pretty pound. So, I am really gonna be researching all 3 of them and I will consider the Volt, too. I want an all-electric and technically the Volt is an all-electric, it just uses the small gas motor inside to fire up the main electrical generator. The B0 employs the use of high-tech capacitors that are encased in steel inside the car. |

Replying to: lemko (Nov 18, 2008 1:19 pm) Does that mean it is time to let the General die? I see your list of companies that have already bit the bullet. Why not give them all money to keep going? I see no reason to only bail out UAW workers. I think the 9000 Starbucks and 40,000 Citi-bank employees should have equal treatment by Uncle Sam. The truth is we have lived on credit so long that we are now paying the bill.
