Those players are known as "calling stations" and don't bluff It COULD be a bluff, but the "call bluff" usually involves calling a bet with nothing and then coming back over the top on the next round of betting with a big raise. Calling stations never raise, they just call, call, call. To be a bluff, they'd have to be thinking about the fact that their cards are not as good as mine. As they're not thinking about my cards at all, that eliminates that possibility

This is called bluffing. To further complicate things is that everyone has a tell and its your job to 1.) figure out what everyone else tell is and 2.) try to minimize your tells as much as possible. |

I've been playing very well recently, so on vacation this past week I found myself at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City in a $120 buy in tournament. Only 42 players (there was an event at the Bellagio with a $10,000 1st place guarantee going on at the same time, as I found out later), but I managed to win the torunament and $1820 I LOVE it when a vacation turns out like that!

I found myself in L.A. last friday night with 12 hours to kill. So, with some encouragement from an experienced player, I entered my first tournament. $155 buy-in with a guaranteed purse of $30K. I think $12K to the winner? 246 entrants. $2000 in chips per player. I was really worried about dropping $155 and getting knocked out in the first 15 minutes. I was less worried about being at the final table and having to leave early to make my flight...lol. Anyway, I made a few newbie mistakes, and it only took one turn around the table for everyone there to figure out it was my first tournament. I did manage to not make any big mistakes and managed to conserve my chips. It wasn't until I collected my 4th pot, that anyone at the table made me show my cards. I was winning with some pretty crappy hands, but no one believed that, it seemed. So.. 3.5 hours later, we have a break. There are only 49 players left (out of 246) and I have $9K in chips (an average stack). Unfortunately, I had to go all-in to call on the next hand and got beat by a better hand. I was pretty proud of making the top 20%, even though that paid nothing. Not too bad for a first tournament.. regards, kyfdx

Replying to: kyfdx (Aug 15, 2007 7:51 am) that would've been my main goal, anyway.

No illusions left, regarding my cool-ness.. j/k... Mostly I survived by keeping my mouth shut. (Really... I did.. |
